Principal Curry's Message

Welcome to Cumru Elementary!

Hello! My name is Mr. Chad Curry, the principal at Cumru Elementary. Before becoming a principal, I taught for eight years at Tilden Elementary. Later, I came to Governor Mifflin School District and served the community as the Assistant Principal at GMIS for almost three years. The past four years, I have served our community as the principal at Cumru Elementary! I reside in the district with my wife Allison Curry (a third grade teacher at Brecknock Elementary). We have two awesome children and a third on the way. It is an honor to live and work in our Mifflin Community, as I continue to get to know each and every one of the families we support each and every day.

As the principal, I strive to create an environment where our students, staff, and families continue to strengthen our relationships in order to best support student learning. Each child at Cumru Elementary is on their own learning journey and our goal is to support their learning growth along the way! Together, we can provide experiences for our students so they are empowered to embrace learning, promote social, emotional, and physical well-being, as well as, develop a growth mindset when learning can be a challenge.

In addition to academics, we are continuing our focus on creating a sense of belonging for our students. At Cumru, we instill three expectations in our students in all areas of our school day to support our students so that they value themselves and others.

Our highly qualified and dedicated staff will provide a safe and nurturing environment that is student centered. We strive to ensure that our students experience a positive and rewarding learning environment so our youngsters develop skills to become lifelong learners as they grow.

Please log on to Skyward and complete the 2022-2023 Back-To-School Registration information for your student. You will be prompted to review and complete important and mandatory forms that must be submitted online prior to the first day of school on August 22, 2022. These forms will require you to update and/or verify student information, emergency contacts, food service plans, and student medical information. You will also be asked to review district policies. Upon completion of the online packet, you will receive a confirmation screen that your submission is complete. (Double Click Skyward Picture to go directly to website).

Grade Level Classroom Supply Lists

We have a “school family caring project” where you can place donations in a box in our school office for "school supplies" for our Cumru kiddos who might need a few things. Feel free to donate as much or as little as you want!

Cumru Student Handbook

Student handbooks are distributed at the beginning of each school year. Parents/guardians and students are encouraged to review all handbook information to be familiar with school procedures, communications, important dates, and other pertinent information that will be helpful during the school year.

Get Ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school. Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place during Cumru’s Back to School Nights. Tuesday, August 16th from 6:00 – 7:30 PM (Pre-K & Kindergarten) and Thursday, August 18th from 6:00 – 7:30 PM (1st-4th Grade). The fair will be located in the Cumru Cafeteria. If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Meet Our Newest Staff Members

Miss Brianna Adkins (Art Teacher)

Brianna is our new art teacher starting this year at Cumru. With a background in many different art forms, including dance, theater, and more. She is excited to explore the wonders of the arts with all of our students at Cumru.

Mr. Daniel Shuman (Innovation Teacher)

Daniel will be in his 10th year of teaching! He has had teaching experience in both 3rd and 4th grades! His most recent position included Math instruction and Technology Integration Coach. Mr. Shuman is married to Amy (another teacher), and recently welcomed a baby boy named Bodie in April. Dan loves to run, watch movies, and coach pole vault. He's extremely excited to start at Cumru this year!

Mrs. Stephanie Krzak (Pre-K Hourly Teacher)

Stephanie is joining our pre-k team at the beginning of the school year. She is excited to make the transition from our HR department into the world of teaching. She is passionate about watching students learn and grow. She will be getting married in March and has a two and a half year old son.

Mrs. Halee Wentzel (Paraprofessional)

Halee is joining our paraprofessional team at the beginning of this school year. She's extremely excited to get to know and work with all of our kids! She is married and has two boys, both of which will be in Cumru this school year!

Mrs. Rachel Chaveas (Paraprofessional)

Rachel joined our paraprofessional team at the end of last year. She has worked with children most of her adult life. She enjoys supporting kiddos and watching them learn and grow. She is married and has a two and a half year old daughter.

Cumru PTO organizes fundraisers to help support classroom initiatives. We also organize and sponsor fun events that bring our community together for students and families. Email us at Cumru.PTO@gmsd.org to find out more!

Chromebook Insurance

Once again, the annual fee for your students' Chromebooks is now available to pay through Schoolpay. As before this fee is optional, but recommended.

The insurance fee is $20 (or $10 for those families who qualify) and can be paid through Schoolpay, or payment may be brought to the main office of your student's school building. We will accept cash, check or money order. Please remember to place your payment in an envelope clearly marked for Chromebook insurance as well as your student's ID number. Checks and money orders may be made out to "Governor Mifflin School District"; be sure to include "Chromebook fee" in the memo line.

The deadline for paying the Chromebook insurance is SEPTEMBER 30, 2022.

Food Services

As of June 30, 2022, the federal free school meals program, which provided free breakfast and lunch to all students throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, has officially expired. Please review this tab and follow the steps on School Cafe.
