It is important that you complete the survey so that our School Governance Council, Elkins Pointe Leadership, and district leaders are aware of your opinions, thoughts, and feelings. I will share the data with Ms. Angela Parham, Zone 5 Superintendent, to continue the conversations around safety for our students at Elkins Pointe Middle School and in Fulton County Schools.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Suicide is the second leading cause for 10-14 year-olds. However, it is preventable. Our counselors will conduct guidance lessons using the Signs of Suicide (SOS) Prevention Program, to help students seek help for themselves or friends.

Goals of the SOS program:

• Suicide is preventable and often associated with untreated depression.
• Train students to recognize serious depression and suicide risk in peers.
• Encourage students to discuss their concerns with a responsible adult.

Thank you to Home Church of Roswell for showing love to our staff with CiCi'c pizza on September 18th! Home Church catered lunch to all Zone 5 schools, including Elkins Pointe. We greatly appreciate Home Church for their delicious and generous gift!

On September 17, our Japanese language students had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the "Otsukimi, moon-viewing celebration” workshop online by Georgia State University professor, Taeko Namura after school. Students learned about the rich traditions associated with this festival, including songs and foods (even moon-viewing Japanese McDonald’s menu!). Students also enjoyed a hands-on origami craft activity, creating their own “moon rabbits.”

A special thank you to Dr. Shannon Borum from the GOALIE (Georgia Online Alliance for Languages, Interculturality, and Equity) for creating a Virtual Culture Club that made this event possible!

Additionally, on the evening of Otsukimi (moon-viewing day), many Japanese students watched the moon to follow this tradition. (some photos below). In the last photo, student’s mom used the app to identify constellations

“It’s time to join Reading Bowl! Reading Bowl is a group of students who love to read! We will read 10 books and then compete on our knowledge of them in Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. If your student is interested in joining Reading Bowl, our last interest meeting will be held on September 27 at 8:25 in Room F101. Students should plan to attend this meeting or come see Mrs. Carter during the day. Students who are interested in can pick up a Welcome Packet, with the list of books, from Room F101 or the Media Center. All parent information forms should be turned in by 10/1 so we can register our team for the competition. VOLLEYBALL TRYOUTS COMING SOON! Volleyball is starting soon here at EPMS. See the links below for information regarding sign-ups for tryouts. Open Gym will be on Monday, 9/23, and Tuesday, 9/24. Tryouts will be on Wednesday, 9/25, and Thursday, 9/26. All forms must be filled out and uploaded to Rank One before players can attend an open gym or tryout.

Please ensure any student who wants to try out fills out the interest form and uploads the required FCS athletic documents to Rank One. All information must be received to be able to try out. Rank One is an FCS Athletics portal that keeps track of all information for student-athletes.

We invite all parents and families of English Learners (ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages) to join us for an informative session. Topics will include ways parents can support their children's academic success through platforms such as Canvas, Infinite Campus, effective communication, and understanding their child’s grades.
