Dance Tonight!
Our dance is TONIGHT and we are so excited to have an amazing time! Here are some very important details -
Tickets are for sale at the door.
Students may wear costumes to the dance, but NO MASKS and NO WEAPONS. If a student has either of those, they may be asked to leave the dance with zero refund.
We have created our very own Haunted House - tickets for that are $5 dollars and will be paid for at the door.
Pick up will be at either the cafeteria OR in front of the Intermediate School. These are the only two locations students will be picked up - students will not be released to walk to their cars anywhere else. The pick up line is long and we will get your students to you ASAP...please be patient, safe and respectful so we can move through the line as quickly as possible.
The dance and haunted house are for LVMS students only!
PRO TIP - The line in front of the Intermediate School is usually WAY shorter.
We will have concessions(pizza, candy, drinks - the three necessities for middle school students) but that will be cash only.

Strive for 5!
Per Texas State Law, in order to receive credit for a course or grade level, a student must be in attendance 90% of the time. Absences whether excused or unexcused count towards the total.
But even more important than the law is that when your child misses school, they miss the amazing instruction that is happening and there's no way to ever truly make that up. Last year, our students missed a total of 3,320 days of instruction which equals 24,900 hours of awesome teaching that went unexperienced.
We want all of our students to be able to take advantage of as much great teaching as possible, so that's why this year we are encouraging all parents to "Strive for 5!" Strive for 5 or less missed days for your child this school year. Please do not misunderstand- if your child is sick, please, please, please keep them home. However, try to plan vacations around our school holidays so that your child can avoid missing as much instruction as possible.
Many parents don't realize that the vast majority of our funding from the state is directly tied to our daily attendance. Each student that is present each day equates to about $37 in funding. If a student is absent, that amount is lost. $37 may not seem like much, but it adds up quickly! When looking at last year's numbers, LVMS lost $122,840 in funding due to attendance. That funding could allow us to hire more teachers equating to smaller class sizes to benefit our students.
Again, if your child is sick, please keep them home. The last thing we want is for your child to be miserable here at school and to possibly cause another child to be sick. What we are trying to limit is avoidable absences.
Attendance Reminders
- The tardy bell rings at 8:40. Instruction begins immediately at this time.
- Official attendance is taken each day at 9:45. If your child is not physically present at that time, they are counted absent.
- All attendance notes should be given to your child's teacher or emailed to Terri Harkins at tharkins@lagovistaisd.net. Notes should be returned within 3 school days of the absence or appointment.
- Typically, the later in the school day you can schedule needed appointments, the better. You definitely want to avoid the 9:45 time frame if possible.

Lady Vikings Tangle With The Bulldogs!
7A
A WIN against the Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday for this group! The last time we faced them we lost in 3 and the score was 29-27 in the third. Still the team of three but this time they came out on top! Scores were 25-14, 20-25, 25-12. Big shoutout to Nova Baker who led the team in serves with 16! Sienna Todd was close behind with 14 serves along with a few kills and some great passes. Eva Navarro dominated on the back row as libero with 9ish great passes. It took a while but this group is continuing to improve and grow as a team. They were patient and trusted the end goal in practices and playing volleyball the “right way” this season and it is now paying off! I could not be more proud of this team and their efforts!

The Lady Vikings faced off against Burnet on Wednesday. We started a bit slow, falling early in the first set. However, we found our rhythm in the second set, pushing hard to tie the game at 24-24 before Burnet took the last two points. Strong serving from Aubrey Alves (8 serves), Cori Davis (6 serves), and Lauren Wood (3 serves) kept the pressure on. A special shout out to Brookley Janson for stepping in for an injured player and helping maintain the momentum during the second set. The team is looking to bring their energy this weekend as they travel to Wimberly for three matches.

The girls hosted the Lady Bulldogs from Burnet this past Wednesday evening looking for some payback for an early season loss. The Lady Vikings got off to a good start taking the first set that was tight and tense throughout. Neither team was able to gain more than a 3 point lead at any point and would actually go to “extra points” with the Lady Vikings winning 26-24 going up 1 set to none. Unfortunately the Lady Vikings weren’t able to seize the momentum gained from taking the first set as the Lady Bulldogs slowly began to gain control of the match. The second set was back-n-forth early on then Burnet built a 4 point lead that the Lady Vikings would bite into only to have the Lady Bulldogs open it back up behind some really tough serves. Burnet would win the second set 25-18 forcing a decisive 3rd set for the match. Burnet won the toss, opted to serve and got off to a fast start as they continued to hit one tough serve after another. The Lady Vikings would fight back but Burnet thwarted each attempt to gain momentum with some great play of their own. The Lady Bulldogs managed to keep the Lady Vikings at arms length from the midpoint of the set on eventually running away behind a barrage of really tough serves and some great hitting. The Lady Vikings were defeated 25-15 in the 3rd set and 2 sets to 1in the match by the Lady Bulldogs who are still undefeated and in first place in the Hill Country District standings. The girls will play in the Wimberley Tournament this weekend as they hope to add more wins to their 7-3 record.

The girls hosted the Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday. Despite many notable plays, the Lady Vikings lost in 2 sets. Unfortunately, Burnet’s servers were very tough to receive which led to multiple point runs by the Lady Bulldogs. Although we lost, there were several bright moments of play by our Lady Vikings: Some excellent attacks were made from the front row by Lilah Culbreath. Lili Wesselman had an outstanding back row attack for a kill. Brookelyn Cushman made some amazing passes and defensive plays. Our setters, Elena Prescott and Stella Granger, continued to better the ball and get it to our front row players so that they could make aggressive plays. And, overall, there were great team effort plays with passes, sets, and aggressive attacks made. So much improvement has been made with this group since the start of the season and they are so fun to watch!
Vikings Sweep the Tigers!
On Thursday, the LVMS Football Vikings traveled to Marble Falls for a non-district matchup against the Mustangs. The three games began with the 7th grade team having a defensive battle. The Vikings hung in the game with a great defensive effort. But, in the end, the Vikings fell to the Mustangs by a score of 12-8. Kooper Kudrna provided the Viking's lone touchdown.
In the night's second contest, the B team Vikings were victorious for the second week in a row. The Vikings offense produced a 75-yard touchdown run by Lester Gonzalez and two special teams touchdowns by the Austins (Austin Tarver and Austin Babin). The 7th-grade Vikings are now 2-3 on the season.
In the night's final contest, the 8th-grade Vikings were looking to stay undefeated on the season, and did so with a convincing 42-12 victory over the Mustangs. Offensive production was spread around to the following athletes: Eason Rice, Levi Castro, Brody Norris, Ayden Chaffin, and Cole Schroder. Lila Rose added 6 extra points in the game as well. The 8th-grade Vikings are continuing to impress with solid offensive production and great defensive efforts. The team looks to remain undefeated next week vs Navarro at home.

Strive for 5!
In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.
We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
