B.E.S.M.A.R.T. About Personal Safety- Week of 4/14-4/17
Every school year, students participate in a program called B.E. S.M.A.R.T. About Personal Safety provided by Prevent Child Abuse Delaware (PCAD) where participants learn ways to keep their bodies safe. Each student is provided with an activity book that is used in class to review important topics such as rules about private places; the different kinds of touches; good vs. bad secrets; and identifying safe adults. This book was also developed to help you reinforce these concepts and contains activities that will allow you to continue this important conversation with your child at home.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month! Please find attached another useful resource from PCAD, their B.E. S.M.A.R.T. Parent Resource Guide that contains tips for caregivers on ways to protect your child from abuse which includes warning signs, grooming behaviors and ways to talk about this topic with your child. You can also visit their website, pcadelaware.org, for more information on child abuse reporting and resources to support families.
In addition, please find a ‘30 Ways to Strengthen Families’ Calendar that provides suggestions on ways families can connect with each other throughout April. Thank you for being a positive influence in your child’s life!

Safety Patroller of the Month
Congratulations to Yaritza Castaneda-Tapia from Mrs. Roberts’ room who has been selected as Safety Patroller of the Month for March 2025. Yari helps with an autism-support classroom, where the staff report that “she has a quiet and calm way about her, which is helpful to both the teachers and students in the room. She is reliable by always being there at the end of every day and ready to greet the students each and every morning. She is willing to be flexible and has changed her assignment when the needs of the classroom have changed. She always has a smile and is a positive friendly influence on all of us. Yari has been willing to learn by readily accepting advice that teachers have given her when she is unsure about how to work with our students. We love having her as our room 110 safety patroller!”
Counselor's Corner
Spring Break is near but our students are still working really hard and we are so proud! The past two weeks 1st grade has been cooking up something good... Friendship Soup. Please ask your Bulldog all about what it takes to be a good friend to others. We will be continuing our first grade lessons on Friendship until the end of the year with a special culminating activity stay tuned to see what great things your scholars are doing during School Counseling Lessons 🙂
Recurring Information
Electronic Devices During State Testing- Grades 3-5
In order to maintain a secure testing environment, RCCSD does not permit cell phones or other electronic communication devices (smart watches, AI glasses, tablets, etc.) into testing rooms. Students should leave these items at home, secure them in lockers or hand them over to their teacher/test administrator prior to starting a testing session. Any student found in possession of a cell phone or other electronic device during a testing session will have their device removed from their possession and turned over to school administration. The device will be returned to the student at the end of the school day following parent/guardian notification. The use of a cell phone or other electronic device during testing is considered a testing violation and students will receive disciplinary consequences for the unauthorized use of a cell phone/electronic device in accordance with the Red Clay Consolidated School District Student & Family Handbook. Any cell phones or other electronic communication devices used during a testing session will be subject to search by a school administrator to ensure the security and validity of testing items.
The spring testing window runs from April 7, 2025 through May 22, 2025. Mote will begin testing the week we return from Spring Break.
If you have any questions about the RCCSD cell phone and electronic device protocols during State Testing, please contact Dr. Corey Heacock, the District Test Coordinator at corey.heacock@redclay.k12.de.us or 302-552-3757.

Arrival to Mote- Car Line- WE NEED YOUR HELP
From 8:50-9:05 the lane from Duncan Road to the back of Mote will be an exit for buses only. Cars will not be permitted from entering the lane from Duncan Road. This is for the safety of our staff and students.
Car Line- Our car line runs quite efficiently. Our car line starts at 8:50 and the cars pulling up to car line between 9:00 and 9:05 have just pulled into the parking lot. That means that cars do not sit through the car line for more that 10 minutes at most from start to finish.
All students arriving in a car are encouraged to be dropped off in our car line. The car line is in the front of the school.
Walkers- We allow for students who walk to school from Duncan Road to enter the school in the back of the school so they do not have to walk around to the front. Cars are not allowed to drive up the lane from Duncan Road to drop off at the walker door. THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR STAFF OR STUDENTS! If you are driving your student to school, please use our car line in the front of the school.

Birthday Celebrations
We do not allow for families to send in items for a birthday celebration. Each teacher has a method to celebrate student birthdays in the classroom. The exception is if you choose to send in a small non food item that your child can pass out to each person at the end of the day. Please do not send birthday invitations in to school with your child for him/her to pass out unless there is one for every student in the class. For more information, please see the flier below.
