Safe Driving on Carroll Avenue
This is a reminder regarding my November email about vehicle and pedestrian safety. We are still observing a lot of unsafe driving on Carroll Avenue during arrival and dismissal times. It is imperative that we obey the following rules of the road for our children's safety:
* The speed limit is 15 MPH on Carroll Avenue. If you can do 10 MPH, that is even better. Please adhere to the law and be mindful of our children who are crossing the street.
* Students should be dropped off and picked up from the driver side door when arriving on Carroll Avenue. This is the side of the door closest to the sidewalk. Students should not be driving in the front seat or exiting out of the passenger doors on the street side of Carroll Avenue. This is unsafe!
* DO NOT stop in the middle of the street and block traffic to allow your child/children to enter or exit your vehicle. This could cause an accident, but most importantly, the person entering/exiting the vehicle could get hurt.
I appreciate those who already adhere to the rules of the road and are committed to the safety of our community members. We should all be modeling mindfulness of others by driving slowly down Carroll Avenue at all times and by using the safest routes to schools for bikers and pedestrians.
As always, I am available if you have thoughts, comments, questions or concerns. Everyone's safety is my top priority.

Evacuation Drill - Week of 12/16-12/20
This is to inform you that this week we will be conducting an Evacuation Drill.
This drill is used to practice our evacuation procedures in the event of a real emergency. There are a variety of evacuation scenarios which we need to prepare for. Students are not told what the emergency is, just that there is one and that we need to evacuate immediately.
The purpose of all drills is to ensure the safety and preparedness of our students and staff in case of an emergency.
Please rest assured that these are only drills and not actual emergencies.
For any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Mr. Scarantino directly.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Spotlight on Learning: Structure & Matter- 5th Grade Science
Spotlight on Learning: RedBird Math- 3rd Grade Enrichment
In addition to our Continental Math League (CML) team, F.E. Bellows offers a STEM enrichment program called RedBird Math to interested third graders. The groups meet once a week in our new Math & Science Lab with Ms. Rutto. They use the write-on tables to work out solutions to problems and then get an opportunity to apply the mathematical concepts to a real world problem.
The write-on tables were graciously gifted to us this summer by the Rye Neck PTSA!
