Teaching, Leading and Learning Like Pirates
Challenge #16
Challenge #16 will extend through the end of the school year. Remember, we encourage weekly postings from all staff members. This challenge aligns with our wellness initiatives and our core value of being positive even in the face of adversity. We want to team-up together and create an SG digital scrapbook using Padlet as the platform! The scrapbook will be a part of an upcoming staff celebration. Challenge #16 is simply this: each week submit something that you are personally thankful for, something inspirational, an enlightening moment, etc. It can be personal or professional. Whatever it is, it should come from your heart. Pictures, quotes, personal or professional journal snip-its are are all welcome ideas. We are emphasizing something from the heart that is aligned with wellness (promotes well-being or positivity). Please make your weekly submission at https://padlet.com/chadharrison/gp2c2qe9j6j4. Also, please be sure to include your name in your post.

4th Marking Period
MP 4 Grading Procedures: Fourth marking period grading procedures will be released this week. After Instructional Services has met with teacher leaders and administrators to review the document, teacher leaders and administrators will review and answer questions about the document during upcoming department and cluster meetings. The document's focus is providing information about ending the marking period and school year. Specifically, it highlights the importance of continuing to overcommunicate with students to ensure they submit missing or late work.
Senior Curbside Pickup: We are having the senior curbside pick up day on Thursday, May 21st. Please watch the video explanation of the outline for the day and jobs needed at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i0vECH8AxyXcD4nMAAc-snba7qtNQeE8/view, then sign-up to assist at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lItPIlTHNILDGErooRkKkNsra4BWogiUQMsAr3Kmp0o/edit?usp=sharing. To accommodate students that can't pick items up on Thursday, our make up day is Tuesday, May 26th. Staff assistance may be required. Finally, staff assistance will be required the first week of June for underclassmen curbside pickup. Thank you for any and all help you can provide in making these events go smoothly!! Thanks a ton for working together as an amazing team!
Make-up PD Hours: For details about make-up professional development hours, please visit https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NxlZk2vlL-19GUf0uNfXiixwqab3gedCfBdt6ynRHAk/edit?usp=sharing. This document has explicit information about dates and instructions for submitting make-up hours. This information is also posted on Schoology in the professional development folder under Snow Hours 2019-2020.
PD Offerings (From Mrs. Villa): This is a reminder that professional development for teachers and paraprofessionals offered through Instructional Services will end on May 17th. Instructional Services has offered close to thirty hours of PD from May 4th– May 16th with a variety of sessions using Podcasts, book studies, blog reviews, webinars, and TED talks. The Schoology PD courses (15 self-paced courses) will also close at the end of the day on May 17th. Please be sure to submit hours using the process established last year to the supervising administrator no later than June 1st (see info above: Make-up PD hours). Special thanks to Carrie Barber, Donna Poore and Jack King for facilitating the May sessions and for activating and reviewing the self-paced courses on Schoology.
Students Not Communicating or Submitting Assignments: In an effort to continually identify students that are not communicating or submitting assignments, please complete the google form at https://forms.gle/2L1ABPyVyza9nuA47. This document will be on-going and continuous while we are operating remotely because we understand there are numerous dynamics impacting students. Feel free to use this form to provide multiple updates on the same student. Redundancy is welcomed! The more real-time information from multiple instructors or even the same instructor, the better. Administration will monitor this list daily for changes and provide staff with a weekly update on students not communicating or submitting assignments.
Prior Week Students of Concern: Please visit Dr. Connor's most recent Schoology post or visit https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l8qeM946JncfIUE6fxNKIMqn3MQCZBrUUYurSWUlpSE/edit?usp=sharing for an update on students that we are attempting to establish communication due to lack of participation.
Keeping Connected
Please continually refer to the St. Georges Exchange for additional ideas to stay connected to colleagues while school is closed.
Below are some of the staff member's lip sink videos submitted. They are all worth a peek! Although the contest is over, we welcome a good laugh anytime a staff member is up to the challenge! It was difficult to determine a winner. All of the videos were creative and fun. We work with talented individuals! See the link below for the winner of the Lip Sync Battle. Thank you to the brave, creative, and fun team members that submitted a video!

St. Georges Teacher of the Year 2021
On Deck!
Avast Ye Shipmates! This Buccaneer Received a Shout Out!
"I want to give a shout out to James Sekcienski for thinking and moving on a creative idea for students to have some fun. Jamie did a terrific job hosting our paper-rock-scissors tournament. It was a battle of the minds between John Wilson and myself because we kept selecting the same item in paper-rock-scissors!:) It was by the luck of the draw that I came out victorious! Sarah took me down quickly in the next round. Jamie and Robert Ferrell battled it out in the championship round, and Jamie came out with the win. We had a great time testing it out (see the picture above)! Again, thanks to James for being innovative and creative! I'm looking forward to seeing our students have fun on this platform!" ~Shanta Reynolds
"I wanted to pass on the positive feedback from the Science Coalition following Dustin Craighton’s presentation last week. Dustin, along with Amy Trauth, shared with the coalition the work that NCCVT has done around our new 9th grade science curriculum, Interactions. It looks like the State will be moving forward with an official pilot of these materials which will be valuable to our continued implementation of this resource. Thanks, Dustin!"
~Carrie Barber, Instructional Specialist, New Castle County Vo-Tech School District
"I want to recognize Vanessa Berrios for going above and beyond assisting counselors and the inclusion department with translating and communicating with our parents!" ~Adrianne Quarles
"I want to thank Trish Williams for her efforts in ensuring that our seniors are recognized before leaving St. Georges. Trish has been instrumental in gathering career certificate, scholarship, and departmental award information that will be used to recognize students." ~Chad Harrison
"I want to give a shout-out to our student outreach team (Dave, Pat, Vaughn, Nate, and John Green). They have gone above and beyond leaving 'no stone left unturned' in finding and communicating with students that wouldn't be connected without their efforts." ~Shanta Reynolds
