Principal's Message
Dear Mary M. Knight Families,
As we enter another exciting week at Mary M. Knight, I am thrilled to share with you the remarkable achievements and upcoming events in our school community. Our students continue to demonstrate excellence both in and out of the classroom, exemplifying our mission of developing successful citizens.
I'm incredibly proud to highlight our SkillsUSA team's recent accomplishments at the District competitions in Elma. Our students showcased their talents across multiple events, with teams earning first place in both American Spirit and Entrepreneurship competitions. These outstanding achievements have secured their spots at the Washington State SkillsUSA Championships at Clover Park Technical College in March. This success reflects the dedication of our students and the supportive environment we strive to maintain at Mary M. Knight.
Last week's Secondary Valentines Fest was a wonderful celebration of our students' positive behaviors through our PBIS program. Students used their earned OWL Bucks to participate in various activities, from pancakes and karaoke to arts and crafts, demonstrating how positive behavior creates opportunities for enriching experiences.
Looking ahead to this week's schedule:
- Monday (2/17): No school in observance of Presidents Day
- Wednesday (2/19): Late start day
- Next Year Kid's Club for our incoming pre-school students
- Facility Planning Board Work session at 6:00 PM
As we look toward spring, I want to remind families that registration for spring sports is now open through FinalForms. High school baseball, golf, and track begin March 3rd, with middle school baseball and track starting March 10th.
I'm also excited to share that our Character Strong focus for February is honesty, aligning with our commitment to developing not just academic skills, but strong character in all our students.
Finally, don't forget about our PTO's ongoing fundraisers, including the World's Finest Chocolate sale. The next PTO meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 12th at 3:30 PM in the elementary library - we welcome all parents to join us in supporting our school community.

This is one of many Fest days in which student are able to spend their OWL Bucks they earn as part of our school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program at Mary M. Knight base on demonstrating their OWLS positive behavior expectations. On February 1st, Mary M. Knight’s SkillsUSA team traveled to Elma to compete in the District SkillsUSA competitions, showcasing their dedication and talent in a variety of events. The Owls performed exceptionally well, bringing home multiple top placements.
In the American Spirit competition, Andiana Ziegler, Cloey Fletcher, and Logan Green secured 1st place, demonstrating outstanding teamwork and commitment to community service and citizenship. Andiana Ziegler also excelled in the Extemporaneous Speech competition, earning 2nd place for her ability to think and speak on the spot.

Secondary Tutoring - Are you in grades 7-12 and want tutoring?
Dear MMK Families,
Our secondary tutoring program continues to provide academic support for students in grades 7-12. The program runs Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, offering students direct assistance from teachers on assignments and assessments.
Students must attend the full session unless prior arrangements for early pickup are confirmed by parents. While this is a valuable opportunity for academic support, families need to arrange transportation at 4:30 PM, as bus service is not available. Please note that tutoring should not be used as a waiting period for after-school events.
For questions about the program, please contact the main office.
