Ms. Hanson's Notes
We are enjoying the great weather this week and hope it continues throughout the weekend! Thank you to all who came out to the Coffee Chat last Friday. Our next chat is on Friday, November 1. Our counselors, Dr. Heron & Ms. Anglin will share information on how they support students, give some tips for helping students who struggle with their emotions. They will also share how we use PBIS here at F.AVE.
Please be sure to check the Parent Portal today at 4:00 pm for your child’s first progress report of the school year. This is a great opportunity to review their academic progress and stay informed about their achievements and areas for growth. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher. For information on accessing the Parent Portal, please reach out to Ms. Morrow (mmorrow@csdecatur.net).

Join WordMasters Challenge - 5th Graders
It’s time, once again, for the WordMasters Challenge at FAVE! Are you interested in learning more about analogies and discovering relationships between words? Do you like participating in competitions? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you may be interested in feeding your love of words by becoming a Word Nerd!
If you choose to participate, you will practice independently solving analogies in a packet provided the LINKS teachers. You will also be expected to meet once per week on Thursdays from 7:20-7:50 AM for group practice. Then, all students who have practiced will be invited to participate in the Meet! These Meets happen during the school day at FAVE. The WordMasters Challenge team will have three meets this year where they will be expected to solve 20 analogies.
Any students in 5th grade are invited to participate. This is a great opportunity for you to build your vocabulary and develop verbal reasoning abilities and higher-order thinking skills, improve logic and reading comprehension.
If you’re interested, please fill out the application in the Media Center Google Classroom. The application closes Friday, October 11, 2024. Contact Edwin Ellis with any questions, edellis@csdecatur.net.
Join CML!
Calling All Mathematicians!!!
It’s time, once again, for Continental Math League at FAVE! Are you interested in solving challenging problems? Do you like participating in competitions? If you answered yes to either of these questions, keep reading!
If you choose to participate, you will practice independently solving math problems in a packet provided by your teacher (we suggest 5-10 practice problems per week). Then, all students who have practiced will be invited to participate in the Meet! These Meets happen during the school day at FAVE. The Math League will meet five times this school year and each student will independently solve six math problems.
Any students in grades 3-5 are invited to participate. Fourth and fifth grade students will begin competing in November, and will receive practice packets soon. Third grade students will compete beginning in January. This is a great opportunity for you to build your problem solving math skills
If you’re interested, please fill out the application in the Media Center Google Classroom. The application closes Friday, October 11, 2024. Contact Stephanie Tolentino with any questions (stolentino@csdecatur.net)

Dine Out

Skip cooking and support the PTO by eating at Paolino's on October 15th!
Walk and Roll: October 9th!
Congratulations to the 247 F.Ave students who walked, biked, and rode scooters to school this morning! They were greeted by Freddie Falcon and received glow-in-dark bracelets from Georgia Safe Routes to School. Fifth grade had more than 100 participants and held on to their title as reigning Walk & Roll champions for the month. One lucky student from each grade received a special raffle prize.
The Decatur Safety Action Plan team was also on site this morning getting feedback from students and parents on their favorite parts of walking to school and where they think our roads could be improved. It's part of the Decatur Safe Streets initiative to inform a safety action plan to help eliminate serious injury crashes and fatalities on our roadways. Students will have a chance to provide input on a banner at the school through the month of October. We encourage you to visit decaturga.com/ss4a to provide your input.
Next month's Walk & Roll will be on Wednesday, November 13. November is also Crossing Guard Appreciation Month. Stay tuned for details on how you can help thank the guards who help get our kids to and from F.Ave safely every day.
PTO SEEKING BUSINESS AND FAMILY SPONSORSHIPS!
We’re seeking to partner with businesses, organizations or brands that would like to support our school through sponsorship, while also benefiting by connecting with the local Decatur community! Don’t have a business but want to sponsor as a family or individual? Check out ALL PTO SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES HERE
If you have questions, please contact us at sponsorship@favepto.org.
SPONSOR'S CORNER

DEI Committee
Sign up to host a Pride Porch at Oakhurst Porchfest
We are hosting Pride Porches @ Porchfest! Every year the PTA/PTO DEI committees collaborate to decorate porches @ Oakhurst Porchfest to help celebrate Atlanta Pride (which is in October) and show support for our LGBTQ+ families. If you live in the Porchfest area, we need your porch, lawn, or driveway for Pride Tables!
The Talley and FAVE DEI Committees will create craft kits and decorations and will drop off before Porchfest. The host house just needs to set up a folding table to set up on the lawn, driveway, or porch. If you have a Pride flag, fly it high!
If you would like to be a host house, please sign up below and provide your address (for kit and treat drop off and as a reference for any Porchfest maps). We also need volunteers to help assemble the kits on Sunday, October 6 @ 1pm onwards. Place TBD depending on weather.
