PEP RALLY SCHEDULE ON OCTOBER 11TH
PSAT- October 16th at SLHS (Sophomores and Juniors)
We will administer the PSAT/NMSQT at SLHS on October 16, 2024 at 7:15 AM to all sophomores and juniors registered to test. All sophomore and juniors are automatically registered to take the PSAT. Please sit down with your student if they are registered to test and go over the short PSAT Preparation Slideshow on our PSAT/NMSQT Webpage. If your student has late arrival, or morning MCTC, they must report to SLHS by 7:15 am to be able to test.

Freshman Academy- October 16th
Freshman Academy will be in the 9th grade center where they will rotate between guest speakers and homerooms. Additional information will be sent to parents.

Convertibles needed for HOCO Parade
Spartan Parents,
Our 2024 Homecoming is quickly approaching and unfortunately we are in need of convertibles for our Homecoming Court to ride on for our Homecoming Parade.
If you have a convertible and would like to volunteer to drive our lovely court through the parade (and show off your amazing car!), please contact our Student Council Sponsors - Tiffany Kang (tiffanytkang@katyisd.org) or Amy Gaden (amybgaden@katyisd.org).
We know that the Homecoming Court would greatly appreciate it!

Homecoming is October 31! The SLHS Band makes beautiful HOCO mums and garters for sale as a fundraiser. Orders are due by Oct. 21. Show your school spirit and support the band.
PSAT/SAT SEMINAR
PSAT/SAT Seminars
After working with more than 60,000 students across the country over the last 15 years, Sycamore Learning Company designed these 5-hour seminars to help students prepare for the upcoming SAT with specific strategies to maximize scoring on each section of these tests.
The cost for one seminar is only $125 and each seminar includes an extensive study guide that has full-length practice tests with in-depth answer explanations for each question and 5 hours of in-class instruction.
The only materials needed for the seminar will be a calculator and two pencils. Enrollment may be limited, so please register as soon as possible at www.prepforthefuture.com to ensure your student does not miss out on this opportunity.

Advanced Placement Exam Information
Attention AP Students! Please see the attached letter for information about registering and paying for your AP exams. The deadline to register and pay the minimum fee for Fall Semester and year-long courses is October 24th at 7:59 p.m. Please see your AP teacher or contact one of the AP Testing Coordinators listed in the letter with any questions.

If you would like your student to participate in the Miller Career Center Field Trip, please complete the Katy ISD Field Trip form found in the 9th grade counselor’s office and return it by October 29th. Space is limited.

NEW MILLER CAREER &TECHNOLOGY CENTER - FALL FAMILY TOURS
The Miller Career & Technology Center will be hosting a series of Fall Family Tours starting on Saturday, September 28. This is a great opportunity for students in grades 7-11 and their parents to tour MCTC and learn about the CTE programs.
Fall Family Tour Dates:
- Tuesday, October 8: 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 9: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, October 1: 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, November 12: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 13: 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS
All transcript requests must be completed through Schoolinks. Counselors and Registrars cannot submit transcripts through other channels or direct university links. If you need assistance requesting a transcript through Schoolinks, you may use the Help feature in Schoolinks or contact the College and Career Facilitator.
Letters of Recommendation for College Applications ***DEADLINES***
Seniors, counselors will only be able to write letters of recommendation for schools that require a counselor’s letter. Additionally, counselors require 4 school weeks advanced notice to have letters of recommendation completed in time.
Please reference the chart below for more information. Please make sure to check if the university you are applying to requires a counselor letter of recommendation! If you need a LOR for the November 15th application deadline, you must turn in a personal data sheet by Tuesday, October 16th!
The deadline to request a letter of recommendation for a November 1st application has passed.
Seniors may request a letter of recommendation through our online form:

All sections of the personal data sheet must be completed to receive a counselor letter of recommendation.

Invest in your future and spend an hour on Sunday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 7 p.m. Eastern time, understanding the requirements and how to prepare for NCAA certification. Join NCAA Eligibility Center staff, who will walk you through what you need to do to compete at the NCAA Division I, II or III level. College and Career Connection Webinars
The Academic Counseling, College and Career Guidance department will offer College and Career Connection Webinars on Wednesdays from 6pm-7pm each week. The live presentations will take place from 6pm-7pm via Zoom Webinar. Participants are not required to register for each individual session. Presentations will be recorded and placed on the Academic Counseling webpage.

SENIORS- CLASS OF 2025
Schedule your senior pictures now or risk not being included in the yearbook! Deadline to be photographed is December 2nd. You must have your portrait taken by CADY Photography to be in the Yearbook AND to have a Yard Sign printed. CADY will be on campus September 28th and October 26th. Time slots fill up fast so schedule your appointment now.
Class of 2025 t-shirt
All seniors will receive a free senior t-shirt that can be picked up during Spartan Spectacular!
If you are unable to attend Spartan Spectacular, you can pick it up in the senior office room 1655, once school starts.

Love and Logic Parent Sessions Fall 2024
Love and Logic Parenting Classes will be offered at multiple campuses during the Fall semester of 2024. Participation options are listed in the chart below. Katy ISD families may register to attend any session. Dates for Love and Logic courses will also be posted on the Professional Learning website.
Families who wish to participate in Love and Logic courses may pay $10 for the cost of the workbook with cash, check, or with the Pay ‘N Go system. Love and Logic Facilitators will arrange for parents to pick up materials.
At least 10 participants are required for each session. If a minimum number of participants is not met, registered participants will be directed to an alternate session.
