Human Resources
Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction
The C&I division has a new name!!!
We are now the Curriculum, Assessment & Instruction Division (CAI). While Colonial has worked hard to create a comprehensive assessment system that includes state, summative and formative assessments, continuous improvement doesn’t end there. The time has come to put a renewed focus on assessment “of” AND “for” learning. Be on the lookout for more information each month.

MATH:
Check out our district wide math department Core Values - we can’t wait to see them in action in our math classrooms!
It’s not just a Math thing! Have you seen or used the Rights as Learners? It’s a great way to build & strengthen your classroom community, and these are fantastic in any content area!
The elementary math curriculum pilot is underway - we look forward to sharing our progress this year!
We are in Year 5 of our PreK-2 Math section of our District Strategic plan. Check it out here.
ST Math has some fabulous updates this year! Check out these resources:
Please share and promote POSITIVE messaging about math and how you see math in the real world. This supports students connecting with math in a joyful way!
Health & Wellness
Colonial Schools will continue to participate in the Take Care Delaware Program. This program is a partnerships between the district and local law enforcement agencies. When a student is at the scene of a potential “traumatic event,” the district receives a “Take Care Delaware” alert. For more information on Take Care Delaware, please visit this link.
- We are excited to continue our partnership with DEMA to offer the SafeDE application to students, families, and staff. As a reminder, this application provides individuals with access to searchable resources, the ability to anonymously report concerns or request help from the school, and connect with a crisis text line. For more information, including instructions on how to download the application, please visit the Colonial School District website.

Transportation
Transportation Updates:
The Transportation fleet will be operating from a remote location beginning 8-19-24 until approximately 10-18-24. This location has limited facilities for staff to utilize. Please welcome our drivers and aides to use building facilities as needed during this time. WE appreciate you working with us through this less-than-ideal circumstance.
FIELD TRIPS- With our focus this year on timeliness upon arrivals and departures at all schools, WE remind everyone that will be scheduling FIELD TRIPS to be mindful of the time restraints for this to be successful. FIELD TRIPS can be scheduled with district buses with a beginning time no earlier than 9:15 and a return arrival time that is no later than 1:30 to each school. This allows buses to arrive for William Penn high school for the 1:50 dismissal. When this time is compromised, a bus will arrive late to all their scheduled schools. IF there is a special request for times outside of the 9:15-1:30 time slot, please call GRACE to check on availability of drivers and buses. WE cannot promise that every request will be able to be fulfilled.
FIELD TRIPS blackout dates- WE ask that you do not plan FIELD TRIPS on the following dates for the 24-25 school year:
OCT. 18th- Special Olympics
Nov. 4th
Nov. 22nd
Dec. 20th
April 16th
APRIL 30th – Special Olympics
May 23rd
MAY 1st- Special Olympics
MAY 30th will be the last day that FIELD TRIPS can be scheduled for the upcoming school year.
