Board of Education Student Representative Installation During the Jan. 22 Board Meeting

Isaac Gates, junior at STEAM Academy @ MSB, has been selected to represent the student body on the Board of Education. The Board of Education, recognizing the value of student input, enacted a policy last year allowing a student to serve as a non-voting member of the Board.

As part of the selection process, interested candidates submitted an essay detailing the importance of student leadership. Four finalists emerged from a pool of applicants, representing McCluer, McCluer North, Innovation, and STEAM High.

• Isaac Gates - STEAM High finalist

The final phase of the selection process involved the four finalists responding to video interview questions. The voting process included an equal number of students from each of the four high schools and each of the three middle schools in the District. The voting students are active members of the FFSD Student Voice Committee.

Gates received the most votes and was selected as the student representative. He was sworn in during Wednesday night's board meeting, officially commencing his one-year term. • First reading of Board Policy revision drafts for Section D - Fiscal Management and Section E - Support Services. FFSD families and staff will receive additional communication about providing feedback to the revisions soon.
