Macomb Inter-Agency Transition Council Meetings
The Macomb Inter-Agency Transition Council meets from 12:30 - 2:30 pm four to five times per year at the Macomb ISD Educational Services Center at 44001Garfield. These meetings are open to county transition coordinators and community agency partners that assist with post-school activities, including post-secondary education, vocational education, integrated employment, adult services, community participation, and independent living.
The purpose of the meetings is to plan school professional development, plan parent seminars on transition topics, provide one another guidance on federal and state transition updates, and trouble-shoot transition-related issues in the county.
The last scheduled transition council meeting is 5-15-24, 12:30-2:30pm, room 206. Macomb County Community Mental Health will be joining us from 12:30-1pm and the rest of the time will be used to plan for the 2024-25 school year.

Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation Amped Up Summer Program
Sterling Heights offers fun and exciting day programs for individuals between the ages of 5 - 26. A variety of sites are offered to best suit the needs and abilities of participants. If you are unsure which program will be most appropriate for your child, please contact the Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation Department.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of recreational activities including arts and crafts, sports, group games and field trips all centered around weekly themes. Please note, the cost does not include field trips. These programs are designed for individuals who will be successful in a 3:1 ratio.

Michigan Rehabilitation Services
Learn about Michigan Career and Technical Institute (MCTI), operated by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. MCTI provides individualized career development, education, training, and support services for individuals with disabilities preparing for and engaging in competitive integrated employment. Macomb County Community Mental Health provides linking, coordinating and monitoring of a broad range of individualized supports and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), autism, and emotional disturbances. Their services provide these individuals with the necessary support to participate in home and community activities. This is a Medicaid eligible service only.
Wondering how to get help?
Prescreens can be conducted over the phone from 8 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. by dialing 855-99-MCCMH.
Anyone can walk-in to Open Access Offices for an assessment from Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the following locations:
MCCMH North— 43740 North Groesbeck Hwy, Clinton Township, MI 48036
MCCMH East— 25401 Harper Ave, St. Clair Shores, MI 48081
The MCCMH North clinic is also open for walk-in assessments with extended hours until 5 PM on Wednesdays.
Assessments can also be conducted over the phone from 8 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. by calling the Access Center at 855-99-MCCMH. Check the information here before you begin a pre-screen or walk in.
Currently, for special education teams that need a MCCMH representative at their students' transition IEPT meetings: encourage families to set up a pre-screening appointment at least 3 months before the IEPT meeting date. It is a goal of the Macomb ISD transition office to expand the MCCMH partnership throughout the county.
Macomb Inter-Agency Transition Council presented the last of the 2023-24 transition parent seminar series on April 24. We learned about the many options for travel around Macomb County from SMART representatives. The website is a wealth of resources. There are also apps to help customers determine when a bus is arriving and what time to leave their home to catch a bus on time.
Travel Training is offered to people with disabilities to help develop the confidence and skills to safely and independently use public transportation. Contact Stacy White-Masi, Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist, at 248-419-7968 or traveltraining@smartbus.org.
Macomb Inter-Agency Transition Council presented the last of the 2023-24 transition parent seminar series on April 24. In addition to learning about SMART, we learned that up to $18,000 can be contributed to a MiABLE account annually, $14,580 in additional contributions for those who have income is permitted, rollovers from 529 education accounts are allowed, and Medicaid is not impacted by ABLE assets. Allowable expenses include educational expenses, housing and rent, basic living expenses, transportation, assistive technology, health and wellness, financial management, legal fees, and end-of-life expenses.
