What's new in the Library?
Fall Book Fair
Our Fall Scholastic Book Fair during School Spirit Week was very busy! Students were able to visit the Book Fair during Library classes and during open periods each day. We had a great selection of books from Scholastic that students were excited about. Thank you to our Book Fair volunteers, Mrs. Hosmer and Mrs. Graves for helping staff the Book Fair during Library classes and to our PTSO.
The next Scholastic Book Fair will be in early May.
Library Happenings this Fall
Fall books are on display in the library.
November birthday authors are also on display this month.
Library Skills activities with K-2
Last month, we reviewed parts of a book and practiced labeling different parts of a book using an interactive activities on the Smart Board as well as books in our library. We also have reviewed Fiction and Nonfiction books, and are learning about how books are organized in the Library.
Book Recommendations with Grade 3
We have been working on our keyboarding skills during Library during the past month, and are also learning about how to format text on a document and add an image. We created book recommendations that are going to be added to our Library.
Evaluating online sources with Grade 5
Besides learning how to use our new catalog, we have also been working with online databases (World Book and Britannica Kids) for finding information. Another skill that we have been learning about over the past couple of weeks is how to use the TRAAP strategy to evaluate an online source (website) for timeliness, relevance, accuracy, author, and purpose and be able to decide if we should use it or not.
