Winter Sports Tryouts
Tryouts will begin on Friday, November 15, 2024:
- All interested student-athletes are expected to be present from day one and have all required documentation fully completed if they wish to compete for a place on the team. For online registration go to www.familyid.com and use "Find a program" to select your high school. Failure to submit all required electronic data entry/forms/cards/etc. by the deadline set by the high school will necessitate the exclusion of the student.
Enrollment and Residency:
- A student must be officially registered and attending the member MPSSAA school they are authorized to attend under regulations of the local school system. They may represent only the school in which they are registered and at which it is anticipated they will complete their graduation requirements. Please contact your Athletic Director for more information:
Student-Athlete Spotlight
Elyssa (Lou) Guy
Elyssa is a senior on the Chopticon High School Girls Soccer Team. The team finished 10-1 in the regular season and received a Bye in the first round of the playoffs. As a captain, she provides energy that never stops on the field. Elyssa is always fighting for the ball on defense. She scored 8 goals this season with 7 assists. She has been a Varsity player for 4 years. Elyssa has not decided where she wants to go to college yet. She is a leader on our team and in our school.
Student-Athlete Spotlight
Lucas Dunbar
Lucas is the first dual sport athlete during the same season at Great Mills High School in the last decade. He excels on the soccer pitch as a central midfielder while also enjoying a great season as the place kicker and punter for the football team. Lucas has managed to perform very well on two varsity sports at the same time while also focusing on academics.
He has been a three year starter on the varsity soccer team that completed the regular season undefeated. As a football player, he has made 88% of his extra point attempts, has made a 35 yard field goal, averages 37 yards per punt, and consistently hits kickoffs to the 5 yard line. He also spends the little free time that he has volunteering in the local community. Lucas proudly serves as a volunteer fire fighter at the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.
Coach Spotlight
Jennifer Henderson
Coach Henderson is celebrating her 30th year as the Head Coach of Leonardtown High School’s Girls Soccer Program. She is the only Head Coach our Girls Soccer Program has ever known. Starting her high school coaching job in 1994, Coach Henderson has amassed an impressive career record of 368-89-19. Her teams have won 14 SMAC Championships, 7 Regional Championships, 1 State Runner-Up Award and 3 Maryland State Championships. During her tenure at Leonardtown, Coach Henderson was named the Washington Post All-Met Coach of the Year, MACS State Coach of the Year, the Terry Colaw Service Award Winner for Maryland Soccer and numerous SMAC Coach of the Year Awards.
Just as impressive are the relationships she builds within her teams and the confidence she instills in her players. She teaches skills that make our girls fierce competitors on the field but more importantly, successful adults. Coach Henderson has mentored hundreds of players, who have gone on to be role models in their communities and leaders in the professional world. Her players credit her with using soccer to give them the confidence to successfully take on life’s many challenges. This month, Leonardtown High School would like to shine the Coaches Spotlight on Coach Jennifer Henderson. Her accomplishments on and off the field have been a great source of pride for our school over the years, contributing to an undeniable legacy of positive and lasting impact
Thank you so much Coach Henderson and good luck in this year’s State Playoffs.
