Tiger Family Newsletter Sept 2024
All the important deets to stay in the know!
A Note From Mrs. Gold
May It Be of Benefit
Hello Tiger Families,
This month's newsletter is all about great starts. 3 things I want to bring to your attention:
- Safety
- School Site Council
- Wildly Important Goals
First things first. If you only read this far into my message, I hope this part stands out. The safety of our students is priority one. Drivers, please slow down, remove distractions, and be a little extra cautious in school zones. This includes the area on Hartnell before you turn onto Yana. Also, please take time to go into your Parent Portal and list the people who are authorized to pick your child up from school. If you've had to make an emergency arrangement for someone who is not on your list, it is very helpful if your child has a note. This way we can communicate easily with the team of teachers who are on pick-up duty. When someone arrives with whom we are not familiar, we MUST take the time to check ID and call the office to see if that person is on the authorized list. This backs up the traffic and causes mayhem during pick-up.
Second, it is that time of year that parents must vote for our School Site Council Nominees. HERE is a link to do that, and HERE is a link to a website which explains what School Site Council is so that you can learn more and see if you'd like to be involved.
And finally, now that we have spent several days establishing routines and expectations across our campus, it's time to roll up our sleeves and get serious about learning. Now, we will set goals and take action steps to achieve them. As I mentioned in our Back to School video, our School Wide WIG (WIldly Important Goal) is that all students will achieve their individual reading goals. That means that your child (yes, even your TK or Kindergarten student) has a personal reading/learning goal. Ask them about it and see if they can tell you what it is. If you're interested in knowing more about the 7 Habits of Leaders, goal-setting, or how you can use the habits at home to help your child grow into the leadership potential, click HERE to read a short family newsletter about goals.
Thank you to all who were able to join us for Back to School Night. If you weren't able to come, please connect with your child's teacher to find out what they shared and how we can work together to maximize your child's success this year. Teacher's emails are listed in the last section of this newsletter.
With gratitude,
Mrs. Gold
Leader In Me September
Habit #1 Be Proactive
In our school, we believe that EVERY STUDENT is a leader in their own way, and it is our job to help your child thrive in that role. To hone our leadership skills, we are learning the "7 Habits" that make us effective in our lives. For the month of September, we invite you to join us in practicing Habit 1: Be Proactive. This habit teaches us that while we can't control everything around us, we always have the power to choose our response. By focusing on what we can control—like our attitudes, words, and actions—we can help our children (and ourselves!) learn to take responsibility for choices and build a positive, productive school experience.
Fall Pictures, Cookie Dough Fundraiser and Menus
Fall Pictures
Are scheduled for October 2nd. ALL orders are handled online, and you can choose from a variety of backgrounds and packages. More information to come as we get closer to the date.
Cookie Dough/Believe Fundraiser
Mark your calendars for our biggest (and only if you don't count the jog-a-thon) fundraiser of the year. Sales are September 6-23. In the past, your support of Cookie Dough sales helped our PTO purchase the Little Yellow Bus & Flower Art Easels in the K playground, our water bottle filling station, new picnic tables near the gym, and many more school improvement projects. Register at FUNDPRIZES.COM. We look forward to another record-breaking year of sales.
This year, the top 10 sellers earn some really special prizes.
September Menus
The September menu has arrived! Click the link to see what's being served.
Also, here is flyer from Cal Fresh with information about how to receive assistance with food if there is a need.
Attendance Matters
One way to jumpstart a PROACTIVE year is establishing good rhythms for excellent attendance in 2024/2025. September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we're highlighting the importance of consistent attendance for ALL of our students - TK and up! Regular attendance helps build a strong foundation for learning, social development, and future success. Did you know: if your child is going to be absent, you can reach out to the school office to arrange Independent Study to earn credit for attendance while you are gone. By building a family focus on great attendance, you are telling your students that they can proactively create lifelong habits of responsibility and commitment.

Forms, Community Connect, & Counseling
Beginning of the Year Forms
69% of SM families have all of their forms completed. We are required to have 100% of forms completed by September 5th. Please take a moment to make sure all of your child's forms are completed. Without them, we cannot check out books to them, let them use a Chromebook, and we may lose our free lunch status and need to begin charging for meals.
The following forms must be completed and submitted for each student:
- Handbook Agreements (a link to the Handbook is included)
- Emergency Contact Information
- Health Information
- Housing Questionnaire
- Educational Benefits Form
- Chromebook Loan Agreement
- Student Accident Insurance/Health Insurance
- Google Apps Parent Information Sheet
- Cellphone/Smart Watch Agreement (if applicable)

Community Connection
Welcome back everyone! New to Shasta Meadows? I can say as a parent whose 3 kids all went through this school, it is an awesome place to grow and learn. Welcome, Welcome. Beside the parent role I've lived in Redding over 30 years. This all comes in handy for my part as the Community Connector. I’m available during school hours for questions. Resources for food, clothes, medical, counseling, parenting classes, housing come up every year. I’d love to help.
