Who We Are

We are a school rooted in its community where aspirational learning and opportunities transform the lives of our pupils. Our Mission is to transform lives and strengthen our communities to make the world a better place

Secondary Update - 23rd May 2025

Dear CEC Families,

As we head into the half term break, we hope you’re able to enjoy some well-deserved rest and sunshine together. Please find below the key updates from this week at CEC Secondary.

Wishing you all a safe, restful, and sunny half term.

Continued Pride in Year 10 and 11 for Their Approach to GCSEs

We remain incredibly proud of our Year 10 and 11 pupils for their mature and committed approach to their GCSE exams. They have truly demonstrated the PERKS of being #Crantastic this week.

  • Year 10 have now completed their official English Literature GCSE and will next sit their Pre-Public Exams (PPEs) during the week beginning Monday 23rd June.

  • Year 11 pupils continue their GCSEs after the break. We encourage all Year 11 families to help pupils strike a healthy balance between revision and relaxation over the week ahead.

One CEC Awards Evening – 12th June

The nominations are in!

Pupils and staff who have been shortlisted for a One CEC Award will shortly receive an individual email invitation.

This special event celebrates those who have gone above and beyond in demonstrating the PERKS of being #Crantastic. If your child wasn’t nominated this year, encourage them to aim high—there’s always next year to earn a nomination by living our values every day.

‘Ready for Anything’ Lockdown Drill – Wednesday 4th June

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our school community safe, we will be conducting a ‘Ready for Anything’ (lockdown) drill on the afternoon of Wednesday 4th June.

  • The lockdown alarm—a long, continuous sound—will sound for one minute. This is a distinct signal, separate from the fire alarm.

  • During the drill, pupils and staff will remain in their classrooms with doors locked. Any pupils out of class (e.g. in corridors or bathrooms) will be supported by senior leaders to move to a safe location.

  • At the end of the drill, senior staff will visit classrooms to confirm the all-clear.

Please take a moment to talk to your child about the purpose of this drill and what to expect. Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and calm learning environment.

Ted Wragg Trust Education Leaders Conference

On Wednesday, leaders from across the Ted Wragg Trust came together for an inspiring day of learning, reflection, and collaboration at our Education Leaders Conference.

The event focused on our 2025–26 strategic theme: "Belonging and Brilliance", rooted in the Trust’s core values of inclusion, ambition, and collaboration.

Key highlights included:

  • Strategic SEND Leadership with David Bartram – championing inclusive, pupil-centred systems.

  • A deep dive into Adaptive Teaching – ensuring high expectations and success for every learner.

  • Reflections from the Study Tour and a renewed commitment to leadership excellence.

  • Updates on our Strengthening Communities work – showcasing how our schools are deepening local impact.

From powerful discussions to joyful moments of celebration, the day was a compelling reminder of what we can achieve together through purposeful leadership.

Dolce Relaunch

On the 4th June, our catering provider Dolce will be offering our secondary pupils the opportunity to try free taster pots. In addition, the catering team will be cooking live. We would love to see our secondary students participating in the event during breaktime and providing feedback.

We also recently sent out a short survey on behalf of Dolce to obtain student views on the catering provision. If you haven't yet completed the survey, please can we ask you to click on the attached link and complete the survey with your child(ren). The deadline for submission is 6th June 2025. https://forms.gle/T4Xy2dTfkfSHoMvk6

Community Community

Local building works

We are writing to inform you that essential improvement works will be taking place on Basin 2C that's adjacent to Crannaford Lane and the works will take part in the Cranbrook Country Park area. These works are part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the local environment and infrastructure for the benefit of the community.

The project is expected to take place on Monday, 9th June 2025 and take approximately 18 weeks to complete, with an anticipated end date in mid-October 2025, subject to weather and site conditions.

During this period, the footpaths running through the park and surrounding Basin 2C will be closed to ensure the safety of the public and the construction teams. This may affect the usual routes taken by pupils and parents walking to and from school and you will need to use alternative routes during this period. Below is an idea of an alternative route as well as the Site works boundary plan.

We understand that this may cause some inconvenience and appreciate your patience and cooperation while these important improvements are carried out. Our goal is to complete the works as efficiently and safely as possible, with minimal disruption to the community.

Thank you for your understanding.

Have Your Say: Drugs and Alcohol Survey

Devon County Council’s Public Health team wants to hear from you as part of its work to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and drug use across the county.

By taking part in their short survey, you can help shape future support services and share your insights as a valued member of our community.
