Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

The celebration began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to a 30-day period. It was officially enacted into law on August 17, 1988.

As part of our celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we would love to involve our students and families. If you or your child would like to share something special about your traditions, culture, or heritage, we invite you to participate! Whether it’s a story, a family tradition, or an artifact, we would be excited to incorporate these personal connections into our classroom celebrations.

If you’re interested in contributing, please reach out to us your child's teacher or Kristina Hannah, our ESL teacher during from September 15-October 15. We look forward to learning and celebrating together!

We are excited to offer Family READS, a free 7-week program designed for parents who are low to intermediate-level English language learners and have children ages 3-11. The program will be held once a week from 5:30 PM to 7:45 PM at Christiansburg Elementary School.

This is a great opportunity for the whole family! While parents learn and practice English and discover how to read with their children, kids will enjoy storytime, educational activities, and games. The best part? Siblings are welcome to join, and free dinner will be provided for everyone!

We’ve noticed an increasing number of lunchboxes being left behind on the bus, playground, and sometimes even in the lunchroom. To help us return them to the correct students, we kindly ask that you put your child's name or initials on their lunchbox. This will ensure your child has their lunchbox ready for the next day. Thank you for your cooperation!

Please note there’s been a change to our previously announced Ice Cream Day schedule. The updated days for each grade level are as follows:

• 3rd Grade: Wednesday
• 4th Grade: Tuesday
• 5th Grade: Thursday

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. We’re still excited to enjoy these sweet treats with the students on their new days!

Do you enjoy spending time with children and have 3 hours available each day? We are looking for a Lunch Paraprofessional to supervise students in our lunchroom. This is a great opportunity to engage with our students while helping ensure a safe and positive lunchtime experience.
