Falcon's Nest
Alcova Elementary School
March 29, 2024
Dear Alcova Community,
We have finally made it to Spring Break. It was nice to see so many families this week for field day. The smiles on the students' faces were priceless. This is a great time of the year to pause and reflect on the growth your child has made this school year. We must celebrate our small and big wins. Spring break is also a time for rest, rejuvenation, and spending quality time with loved ones. It's a well-deserved opportunity for all of us to take a step back from our daily responsibilities and recharge our batteries.
It’s hard to believe, but we only have 6 ½ weeks left in this school year. Here are some calendar reminders to highlight for the month of April.
● April 1-5 Spring Break (The school and office are closed)
● April 8-12 Career Week (Students will engage in culminating activities related to various careers)
● Friday, April 12 SOAR student celebration
● April 15-19 I-Ready EOY Diagnostic (reading and math)
● April 16th PTA BINGO for Books 5:30-7:00
Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will take the Georgia Milestones this month. This is the summative assessment we have been working towards all school year. Students in 3-5 will take the Language Arts and Math assessments. Only 5th grade students will take the science assessment.
It is important that students arrive by 8:15 each morning to take the test with their classmates.
SOLAR ECLIPSE 2024
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. In Gwinnett County, weather permitting, we will experience a partial solar eclipse between 1:45 p.m. and 4:21 p.m., with the maximum at 3:04 p.m.
This is a normal school day for Gwinnett County Students. The district has purchased viewing glasses for all students and staff. All students will go outside from 1:45-2:20 to participate in the viewing experience. We will dismiss at our normal time of 2:45. Early checkout will end at 1:15 to allow time for the front office to locate your child prior to the event. Students will be dismissed via their normal mode of transportation.
