EMS Absence Reporting

Important Information

Monday, February 10th will be a B day. Students will have a two-hour early dismissal on Friday, February 14th.


U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Many citizens are concerned about reports in the media relative to ICE Raids and want to know how their local school systems plan to handle the issue. SMCPS will adhere to the guidance provided by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Please read A Guide for Students, Families, and Local Education Agencies on the MSDE website. Our actions are bound by law, and our administrative staff consistently ensures compliance.


As a reminder during our winter season, students are not permitted to wear blankets in the building. Additionally, students cannot wear ski masks in the building. Please contact your child's Assistant Principal with any questions.

After School Activities

All after-school activities end at 3:30 pm. Two or more late pickups will result in removal from after-school activities.

Monday - Math Counts, Volleyball Intramural, and Solo and Ensemble Help

Tuesday - Basketball Intramural, Fitness Club Intramural, Chess Club Intramural, Symphonic Band - Woodwinds ONLY, and BATB Jr. Enchanted Objects, Belle & Beast

Wednesday - Symphonic Band - Brass ONLY, Honors Chorus, and Volleyball Intramural

Thursday - Civil Air Patrol, Basketball Intramural, Fitness Club Intramural, Chess Club Intramural, Symphonic Band - Percussion ONLY, and BATB Jr. Enchantress, Narrators, Belle, Beast, Enchanted Leads

Friday - None

Upcoming Events

All schools and offices will be closed on Monday, February 17th in honor of Presidents' Day.


During the month of March, each High School will be hosting a Rising Freshman Orientation Night, which is intended for eighth-grade students who are about to transition into high school. Families can visit the website smcps.org/rfon for more detailed information regarding this event. All events will begin at 6:00 pm on the following nights:

March 3, 2025 - Leonardtown High School

March 4, 2025 - Chopticon High School

March 6, 2025 - Great Mills High School


March 10, 2025 - Snow date (if needed)

Event Information

7th Grade Dance

This dance will take place right after school for 7th-grade students ONLY; students must be picked up at 4:00 p.m. Parents will not need to come inside to pick up students. Students will be released to the parking lot at 4:00 p.m. to go home. The permission slip to attend the dance will be in the March 10th SMORE and available in the cafeteria starting Monday, March 10th. The cost to attend the dance is $5.00. Students must have their $5.00 and signed permission slip during homeroom on Friday, March 14th, to get their dance wristband. No dance wristbands will be sold after homeroom, and no students can call home to get permission to attend the dance.

The next 8th grade dance will be the 8th grade formal. More information to come on this event, other end of year celebrations, and the academic and behavior requirements to attend these events before the start of the 4th marking period.

Families can pay for lost or damaged resources in My School Bucks. Resources include library books, laptops, chargers, textbooks, consumables, etc. My School Bucks is also used to put lunch money on your child's account.
