KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHANAU
Kia ora Vogeltown whānau, welcome to the third newsletter for Term 4, another busy and shorter week. This week our focus on the senior side has been our Kapahaka roopu and our Puanga performance. We had to return our taonga that we won last year on Thursday morning and then our performance was this morning at 8am - a big thanks to all our caregivers and supporters! Big thanks also to Mr Ransfield and Whaea Raewyn for all their hard mahi to get our Roopu to the amazing standard we saw today - Ka Rawe whanau!
Next week we have a couple of big events coming up:
School photos
These are on the 1st November. We have a timetable that will accommodate the Yr 6 classes with the Highlands orientation first followed by the remainder of the classes. You will receive an email in a couple of weeks about the photos and how to order - we will let you know as soon as we know.
Highlands Orientation
A reminder to all Yr 6 whanau that this is on Wednesday at 11.30am at Highlands. We will not providing any transport or taking any of the Yr 6 kids down, it is up to parents/caregivers to transport your child to Highlands. Please remember to sign your child out at the senior office on this day.
Vogeltown Hangi
We have our annual Vogeltown Hangi scheduled for Friday 3 November, with our Yr 6 learners staying over at school on Thursday night. With the weather not looking too flash, we may change this date - we will let you know on Tuesday whether we are going ahead.
A big thanks to everyone who has donated items - we really appreciate all items and we put everything we receive in the ground. A reminder to bring a peeler on Thursday, maybe wrapped up in some paper in your child's bag.
Car Free day
This day is scheduled for Tuesday. The idea behind this day is to come to school by any other means than car (or just park 500 metres away and walk in). We will be providing pancakes and fruit for breakfast on this day!
All the kids will be coming home talking about Talent Quest. This is another annual and exciting time on the school calendar. The Huatoki (middle) auditions are on the 6th November, the Paetoki (senior) are on the 7th November. The Taranaki (junior) auditions happen in their class over this week. The Talent quest final is on the 17th November.
A reminder that we have a Teacher Only Day on Monday 13th November. This is in line with the Ministry of Education's curriculum refresh. We are meeting with other New Plymouth Schools at Te Whare Hononga and doing a day around our localised curriculum - incorporating Pukākā Pa (Marsland Hill) and St Mary's Church.
A reminder that we do not ask our whanau for $ for school donations, we have opted in to the Ministry of Education scheme again for 2024 to cover curriculum extras that we offer.
Have a great weekend whānau - go the All Blacks!

SCHOOL GOAL THIS TERM - BE AN 'ORIGINAL' VOGELTOWNER
VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - 400 DAY!
Vogeltown School has just reached 400 learners! This is the first time Vogeltown School has ever had this many learners at the school - a massive milestone.
This also means the school is becoming an even busier place than usual, as we have more kids, staff and whānau in our Vogeltown family!
To acknowledge this milestone, we want to have a '400 day' to celebrate. We are going to have this day on Wednesday 8th November. The day will be a celebration of the number 400. All the kids can dress up in their PJ's for this day. Each Vogeltown learner will be designing a 'hat' that represents their whānau and the number 400 - we will then be having a school parade on the turf at the senior school at 2pm, followed by a photo of all of our learners from a drone on the back field and then some celebration kai to finish (ice cream/ice block cake!)
All whānau are welcome to come and join us on this day at 2pm to be part of this celebration!
WELCOME TO VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
With Miss Cam Hedley leaving us at the end of the year for her exciting move to Australia, we have had to fill this teaching space for 2024.
We would like to announce that we have appointed Mrs Sussanah Pitcairn to Vogeltown to teach in the Year 3 and 4 team. Sussanah comes to us from Bell Block school, where she is currently teaching Yr 7 and 8 learners.
Sussanah is an experienced teacher of 20 years and has taught overseas and in NZ. She is very creative and enjoys teaching the core subjects at school and getting massive progress from her learners!
I know you will all help welcome Sussanah when she starts with us in 2024.
Nga mihi nui Sussanah.

HATS - PŌTAE
A reminder to our whānau that all of our Vogeltown learners must wear a bucket hat in Term 4. The sun becomes more intense over the term, so the bucket hat is the best way to protect faces and necks.
You can purchase a school hat from the senior office for $17 but any bucket hat is fine to wear.
We also have sunscreen in the classrooms.
