NEWS & INFORMATION
10/11/2024
This week was packed with exciting learning opportunities for our students! Preschool, Kindergarten, and first graders participated in Fire Prevention Week. We want to extend a big thank you to the Hanover and Reily Township Fire Departments for visiting and teaching important safety lessons. Our First and Second graders also had the privilege of meeting author Mariana Llanos, who did an incredible job sharing her life experiences and inspiring our students to write their own stories. The students were captivated by her journey as a writer and left feeling motivated to create their own works. Thanks to Oxford Lane Library for organizing this for our students!
In our Family Groups meeting, we focused on being a good friend and working together. Staff members read the book Peanut Butter and Cupcake. Check out the video on our Facebook page to see the staff read aloud! Everyone looks forward to meeting with their family, ask your child what else they did during Family Groups.
We want to remind families that gum is not allowed at school. While we understand that students enjoy chewing gum, it can create distractions in the classroom and lead to sticky messes in common areas. To help keep our school clean and focused on learning, please remind your child to leave any gum at home. Thank you for your cooperation and support in maintaining a positive school environment!
PICK UP
To help ensure students arrive at their correct dismissal location, we kindly ask that you contact the main office by 2:30 PM if there are any changes to your child’s dismissal plan. While we understand that emergencies can happen, we’ve noticed a significant increase in last-minute changes around 3:00 PM, which can cause confusion and delays. By notifying us by 2:30 PM, we can make sure your child receives a dismissal note and reaches the right spot after school. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
HALLOWEEN PARADE
Our annual Halloween parade will take place on Thursday, October 31st @ 8:45. THIS IS A CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS YEARS! For those planning to attend please, park in the upper lot and make your way around the building to the bus loop. You can begin heading to the bus loop anytime after 8:35 AM. PLEASE wait until 8:35 to allow our preschool students to enter the building.
During the parade, students will walk around the bus loop before returning inside to continue their school day.
Costumes will be permitted with the following guidelines:
1. No Costume Masks
2. No Props
3. Minimal Makeup
4. Costumes must be worn to school. There will not be a “change time”. Please make sure that your child will be able to function comfortably throughout the day (bathroom needs, recess, school work, specials) while wearing his/her costume.
We look forward to a fun and safe Halloween celebration!
AUTHOR VISIT
On Tuesday, our first and second grade students got to meet an author! We welcomed Ms. Llanos (Yanos), who was born in Peru. She is a children’s book writer, poet, and translator. In 2017, she received the Oklahoma Human Rights Award for her work visiting schools in different countries around the world through virtual technology . That same year she was selected as the Best Latino Artist by the Hispanic Arts Council of Oklahoma. In 2022, her book, Run Little Chaskil An Inka Trail Adventure, won the Oklahoma Book Award and was selected for the Great Reads from Great Places program by the Library of Congress.
Ms. LLanos lives in Oklahoma City with her children. When she's not writing, she enjoys reading, spending time with her children, and visiting schools to inspire a love of reading. We are so glad she got to visit Marshall!
