Half Days Monday and Tuesday
Only Student with Permission to Make Up on Wednesday
Celebrating Pride Month
Message from the Principal
Good Afternoon CompSci High Families,
As we wrap up the school year, we want to take a moment to reflect on a strong and memorable final week at CompSci High. Last week, we celebrated our students during grade-level awards ceremonies, began final exams for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders, and watched our Softball and Boys Volleyball teams compete with pride and determination in the state tournaments.
Looking ahead, we have a few exciting moments still to come. Most importantly, we will celebrate the Class of 2025 at Graduation on Tuesday—a major milestone for our seniors and their families. Final exams for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders also conclude on Tuesday. Please note that only students who have made prior arrangements with their teachers should report to school on Wednesday for make-up exams.
We thank you all for your continued support and for helping make this school year such a success. Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for information about summer assignments, updates for next school year, and your student’s final report card.
Have a restful and safe summer!

CompSci High Partners N Prevention Group Honored at YardGoats
This past Friday our student group - Partners N Prevention were honored at the Yardgoats Game where the night was "Mental Health Awareness Night". At the event, the students tabled right inside the main gate next to the event sponsor, the KV Foundation. They did a great job representing the school and sharing information with the game’s attendees about healthy relationships and coping strategies. They were also one of only two groups who were recognized on field during a pre-game ceremony highlighting the work that is done to raise awareness about mental health and healthy relationships.
Please take a moment to see them on the Jumbotron at Dunkin Park! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NrsVq2Dc5ksL3bOISUXLtp-J5KaC4hD6/view?usp=drivesdk
Summer Opportunities Around Hartford!
CREC Summer School - Credit Recovery
- CREC Credit Recovery for High School Students
- Credit recovery for students who did not earn credit during the ’24-’25 school year will take place from June 23rd to July 24th at the Greater Hartford Acad. of the Arts High School in Hartford.
- This summer, credit recovery will have a different structure than previous years. Instead of taking two classes over four weeks, students will focus on one class at a time during a two-week cycle. Students who only need to recover credit in one class will only need to attend one two-week session; students needing to recover credit for two classes will attend both sessions.
- The session dates are below, and we will provide updates regarding which specific classes will be offered in each session. Students and families should work with school counselors regarding eligibility and registration for summer credit recovery.
- 9th Grade ONLY Orientation and Skill Development Day: June 23rd
- Session I: June 24th – July 8th
- Session I Make-up Day: July 9th
- Session II: July 10th – July 23rd

Attendance Reminder
- CompSci High would like to remind all families of the Attendance Policy. There are actually two Attendance Policies that all schools run - School Attendance and Meeting (class) Attendance.
School Day Attendance - Impact on state reporting for Truancy and course credit
- What is an "Excused School Day Absence"? An absence that the school has confirmed the student was not/will not be in due to something occurring outside of school through documentation.
- Per State of CT Policy - All families can "excuse" the first 9 school absences with a parent note, email, or phone call.
- After Nine (9) School Absences, an excused absence will only be put in the system if a:
Student illness as documented by an appropriately licensed medical professional;
Student observance of a religious holiday;
Death in student’s family or other circumstance outside the student’s family’s control;
Mandated court appearances;
Lack of transportation that is normally provided by a district other than the one the student attends;
Extraordinary educational opportunities pre-approved by CompSci administration
Disciplinary purposes (as decided by CREC and/or CompSci)
- Any School Absences that do not meet the above will be coded as Unexcused
Class (Meeting) Attendance - Impact on Credit being Awarded in each Class
Any student with 12 or more absences in a half year course or 24 absences in a full year course will lose credit and be required to go through the Appeal Process to potentially have credit restored.
- Types of Absences with Class Attendance:
- 1. Exempt Absences - do not count as absences in a class. These include:
- Religious Holidays - Parent communication is required
- Standardized Testing - Documentation is needed
- College Acceptance Orientation - Documentation is needed
- Death in the Family - Parent communication is required
- Appointments with Student Support Staff - School managed
- Long Term Illness (3+ Day) - Medical documentation is needed
- Mandated Court appearance - Official documentation is needed
- Field Trip - School managed
- Suspension(s) - School managed
- 2. Appealable Absences - class absences that can be appealed and removed if student/family complete the process. These include:
- College Visits: Parents/Guardians are asked to schedule all visits during school vacations or weekends.
- Student-initiated Appointments
- Short Term Illness: Up to two (2) consecutive school days verified by a note
- Non-emergency Medical Visits: Doctor and dental appointments should be scheduled for after-school hours.
- Family Vacations/Trips: Discretion should be used in planning such events. CREC Magnet Schools strongly discourages travel outside of school vacation periods. Students and parents/guardians should realize that if extended vacations contribute to excessive absence, an appeal for reinstatement of credit will not be possible.
- Visits to Nurse: Visits to the school nurse will count as Appealable absences if the student brings a pass from the teacher and the nurse deems the visit necessary.
- Early Dismissal: Proper documentation for early dismissal will include official documentation from the school nurse or documentation from the parent/guardian including the reason that early dismissal is necessary.
- 3. Unappealable Absences - Absences that cannot be appealed
- Class Cuts (in school and skipping class)
- Leaving School Grounds (suppose to be in school but have left school grounds)
