What is the IB Learner Profile?
IB learner profiles assist students in developing into internationally minded people who recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, helping create a better and more peaceful world.
As IB learners, we strive to be:
- Inquirers: We know how to learn independently and with others.
- Knowledgeable: We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.
- Thinkers: We exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions.
- Communicators: We collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.
- Principled: We take responsibility for our actions and their consequences.
- Open-minded: We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience.
- Caring: We act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and the world around us.
- Risk-takers: We are resourceful and resilient when facing challenges and change.
- Balanced: We recognize our interdependence with other people and our world.
- Reflective: We work hard to understand our strengths and weaknesses to support learning and personal development.
October's IB Learner Profile: Inquirer
Students who are inquirers nurture their curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. They know how to learn independently and with others. They learn with enthusiasm and sustain their love of learning throughout life. IB students regularly seek new knowledge and question the world and how it works.
Ways Parents Can Help to Develop Learner Profile: Inquirer
- Visit places that spark inquiry, like museums, parks, or nature preserves.
- Explore areas of your child's interest by visiting the library to borrow books.
- Develop an understanding of the Internet. Work with your son or daughter when the Internet is being used, and try to understand that some Internet sites are not reputable.
- Model being an inquirer. Ask questions and wonder!
- Praise your child for asking a question.
- Have your child jot down their questions in a journal and spend time researching their questions.
Facilitating Collective Action through CTS Alabama Coastal Cleanup
Council Comets took action where action was needed in our community during the Alabama Coastal Cleanup. CTS staff, students, and families met on Saturday, September 16th, at Eight Mile Creek to clean up litter and trash that could have ended up in our local waterways. This school-led collective action encouraged students and families to participate in a community service project that promotes positive change. Through individual and collective action, students understand the responsibilities of being internationally minded and appreciate the benefits of working with others for a shared purpose. When students see tangible actions they can choose to make a difference, they see themselves as competent, capable, and active agents of change.
