The Barnard Broadcaster

Dear Barnard Families,
This week we launched our first Connect with the Community Event, in hopes to equip families with an abundance of resources to set you up for summer success. It was pure joy to gather as a community at the end of the school year. We hope that you walked away with a bucket full of ideas to engage your child(ren) this summer, whether it is local camps, ideas to support reading, writing and math over the summer or even some tips on fostering SEL (social emotional learning). Our goal was to keep them engaged in meaningful activities and off the screen as much as possible. A huge thank you to the Community Outreach Committee at Barnard, under the leadership of Mrs. Thoenes and Mrs. Morton for organizing this wonderful event. Below you will find more information about our summer literacy program, lead by Mrs. Beloungea and Mrs. Winiarski, to keep kids engaged in reading and writing all summer long. Don't miss out, we hope to see you at our summer meet ups!
Field Day is this week, Wednesday June 5th from 9:30-3:45. Thank you to the volunteers who signed up to come help! If you weren't able to sign up to help but just want to come watch your child(ren) please feel free to still come and enjoy as a spectator. K-2 will run from 9:30-11:30 and 3-5 will run from 1:45-3:45 pm. All field day activities will be held outside in the back of the school. Volunteers, please sign in at the office, spectators meet us around back.
This Friday, we will celebrate our 5th graders as they graduate from Barnard and prepare to head off to Middle School next year. We are so proud of their accomplishments throughout their time at Barnard and their leadership this year as 5th graders. Thank you to all the 5th grade parents who have worked so hard to create a fun day for them on Friday to celebrate.
Let's make these last 9 days count!

😎 Summer Literacy - Keep on Reading 📚
This summer, don't let screen time replace your child's precious time to continue to grow their reading and writing life. Help prevent "Summer Slide" the learning loss that students can experience when out of school for the summer, by partnering with us to keep them motivated all summer long. The most important part- KEEP IT FUN! 😀 Take time to check out all the resources below to learn what you can do as a parent to keep your child engaged in meaningful literacy all summer long. There are a lot of resources, we know, but trust us, it is worth the time to read and explore it all.
