Cafeteria Procedures for Family Visits
We love seeing our Aviator parents, grandparents, and family members joining their child for lunch! It’s a special time that allows families to connect and share in the school day experience. To make sure everyone has an enjoyable and smooth visit, please take a moment to review the guidelines below:
Check-In Procedures: All visitors must sign in at the front office and obtain a visitor's badge. Please bring a valid ID, as our staff will need to verify all guests for the safety of our students.
Seating Arrangements: During your visit, we kindly ask that you and your child sit at the booth tables along the back walls or at the round tables. Please do not sit at the rectangular tables, as these are reserved for our classroom groups. This helps us maintain an organized and enjoyable environment for all students and visitors in the cafeteria.
Student Guidelines: Only the student whose family is visiting may join their family at the designated tables. Other students may not join non-family members or friends' families without written permission from their parent. This written permission must be sent to the child's homeroom teacher via ParentSquare in advance.
Respect Lunch Schedule: Each grade has a specific lunch time, so we ask that you arrive at the start of your child’s lunch period and say goodbye once lunch is over. This helps us stay on schedule and minimize disruptions to classroom learning.
Enjoy the Moment: Use this time to talk about your child’s school day, celebrate their learning, and make them feel extra special! We encourage you to ask about their favorite parts of the day, their friends, and what they’re learning.
Thank you for partnering with us to create a safe and enjoyable lunchtime experience for everyone. Your presence means so much to your child, and we’re grateful for the support and joy you bring to our CES community!

Science - At Home & In the Community
Science is everywhere! You don’t need a lab to spark your child’s curiosity and love for learning about the world around them. Here are some fun and easy ways to explore science right at home, outside, and within our community. Let’s make everyday moments into exciting science adventures!
Science at Home
- Kitchen Chemistry: Cooking is a great way to learn about science! Try making bread or pancakes, discussing how ingredients change when heated. For a fun experiment, combine baking soda and vinegar to watch a fizzy reaction—talk about how gases form and make bubbles!
- Sink or Float: Fill a large bowl or bucket with water, then gather small household items (a spoon, a crayon, a leaf) and guess whether they’ll sink or float. Test your predictions and talk about why some objects float while others sink.
- Night Sky: Pick a clear night to go outside and look up at the stars and the moon. You can use a free stargazing app to identify stars, planets, and constellations. Ask your child what they think space might look like up close!
Science Outside
- Nature Walk: Take a walk around the neighborhood or a nearby park. Encourage your child to observe birds, bugs, plants, and trees. Bring a magnifying glass and a notebook so they can look closer and take notes or draw what they see.
- Weather Watch: Keep track of the weather each day. Talk about clouds, rain, wind, and sun. You can even make a simple rain gauge by placing a measuring cup outside and seeing how much rainwater collects!
- Rock and Leaf Collecting: Collect rocks, leaves, or flowers, then sort them by size, color, or shape. Talk about textures and patterns—what makes each one unique? Use a guidebook or app to identify the plants and rocks you find.
Science in the Community
- Visit a Local Garden or Nature Center: Many community gardens and nature centers offer free or low-cost events for families. Explore different plants, insects, and ecosystems while learning from experts!
- Farmers’ Market Fun: Head to a farmers' market and talk to the vendors. Ask about how they grow fruits and vegetables and the science behind growing food. Some markets even have cooking or gardening demonstrations.
- Library STEM Events: Libraries often have hands-on science or STEM activities for kids. Check their event calendar for fun, interactive ways to explore science and meet other families interested in learning together.
Exploring science together is a wonderful way to build your child’s curiosity and confidence. Whether it’s through a quick kitchen experiment or a nature walk, these simple activities can help bring science to life and show your child just how exciting learning can be.
Happy exploring!
