Peak Prep Principal's Update
March 29, 2022
Dear Families,
CAASPP Testing
For the 2022 spring administration of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) for English language arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science (CAST), students will be able to take their assigned tests remotely. Our priority is to keep our students and educators safe by following state, county, and local health and safety requirements associated with the current pandemic. Our faculty will continue reaching out to students to schedule them for their testing sessions. Testing will occur over the next few weeks.
Re-Enrollment
This year our re-enrollment process will be done within our PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please follow the instructions below to log into PowerSchool to indicate if your student(s) will be returning. It is important to note that current students are not automatically re-enrolled for the fall. We do need confirmation that you are accepting your spot in Peak Prep (via the PowerSchool re-enrollment form only) and a completed master agreement, and updated proof of residency.
We are committed to your student's academic success and devoted to ensuring that each student has the support they need to succeed. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me! I am here to support you.

What is an IEP?
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Americans with Disabilities Act (504/ADA
If your child has a diagnosed disability or you feel your child needs assessment for a disability that impacts school performance, speak to your child’s teacher or counselor.
Examples of disabilities that are addressed by 504 plans include ADHD, diabetes, asthma, depression, and health-related issues.
Speak to your child’s Principal or school psychologist to ask about an evaluation for ADA/504.
What’s the difference?
An IEP focuses on educational benefits, and often includes direct services such as speech or occupational therapy. IEPs are available to students with one 13 specific criteria such as orthopedic impairments or intellectual disabilities.
Both are free. Some students have both, and some just have one or the other.
How do I know if my child needs a 504 or IEP?
To get an IEP plan, a student’s disability must interfere with their ability to fully benefit from the general education curriculum, meaning that they need specialized instruction.
To get a 504 plan, a student’s disability must hinder their ability to learn in a general education classroom without accommodations.

General Education Pre-referral Interventions
In addition, all schools have a problem-solving team of educators who meet regularly to discuss strategies for their students who continue to struggle. At Peak Prep this team is called Student Study Team (SST). This team assists teachers and counselors by analyzing student performance data and planning needed intervention services for students at the school.
Ask your child’s teacher or counselor about a referral to the school’s problem-solving team
Special Education..
Within 15 days of your request, you will receive either:
- An Assessment Plan noting areas in which your child will be assessed, - or - -
- A notice that the district declines to assess, with reasons given. You have the right to appeal this decision.
If you receive the Assessment Plan, you must sign it and return to the school. Within 60 days of receipt of the signed Assessment Plan, all assessments will be completed and an Individual Education Program (IEP) meeting will be held to discuss your child’s eligibility. If your child is eligible, an IEP will be developed. An IEP will include specific goals to address your child’s needs, and services to support those goals.
