Congrats to FHS teacher Ani Gjika on the official publication of her new memoir on Nov. 14th You can now pre-order it. (Ali has read it already, and it is wonderful!)

Tyler Ramsay has joined the staff of the FHS Library as a part-time Library Media Specialist from 11:00am-2:15pm every day. A former middle school English Teacher, Mr. Ramsay is currently working on his degree in Library Science at Salem State, and he is loving the opportunity to work with FHS students and teachers, especially since he once was an FHS student himself! Please come to the Library to say hello to Mr. Ramsay.

On November 3rd, author Dashka Slater came to FHS to talk with students in a variety of courses, including Psychology, Sociology, African-American Studies, ESL 3, English 2, AP Language, and AP Capstone. She talked about her experience as a news reporter and the process of gathering data from multiple sources before attempting to come to an understanding of "truth."

This fall, our Library window displays featured dioramas of Barbies enjoying life at FHS. Spot some staff members in the photos below.

Emerson Portillo and Luke Fontano are the go-to guys in FHS's Office of Technology. Their office is the third door on the left after you enter the Library's main doors. Staff and students can find them during office hours from 7:30am-9:00am and 1:30pm-2:00pm. Bring them your broken equipment or your tech conundrums, and they'll do their best to fix them. You can also call the Helpdesk phone (ext 26901) from your classroom at any time during the school day to open a Helpdesk ticket.

Our library is home to a Quick Reads section, for books that are quick and easy! This section is great for English learners, getting out of a reading slump, or reaching your end-of-year reading goal. We recently "genrefied" this area for ease of finding topics of interest, like sports & racing, suspense & survival, identity & social justice, and sci-fi & fantasy. Feel free to recommend this resource to your students who (say they) don't like reading or who are reluctant to choose an independent reading book.

Our December book club discussion is about Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. Wednesday, December 13th at 2:20pm in the Library.

This novel is told in 4 parts, by 4 different narrators. Who the reader can "trust" is the novel's major question. Set in the 1920s and 30s, the story follows a business magnate and his wife before and after the stock market crash of 1929. Astute readers will find nods to Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Faulkner, and even a little Virginia Woolf in this work of historical fiction and literary mystery.

This book is a great companion to help me practice what I am slowly learning.

Tress has always lived a simple life on her island, collecting cups brought by sailors who travel the world's many oceans, which are made of violently reactive spores. The oceans are unpredictable and deadly, and Tress soon finds herself a stowaway in a desperate attempt to save her best friend, who has fallen into the hands of a conniving sorceress. She will cross paths with pirates and zombies, meet talking rats and dragons, and traverse oceans of danger in this fantasy-comedy about the strength we find within us to save the ones we love.
