Principals' Greeting
Greetings, Hiteon Community!
Spring is on the horizon, and with it comes a change in the weather and a busy time at school. In this month's newsletter, you will read about Kindergarten Orientation happening on April 7 via Zoom. Please enroll if you have a kindergartner or if you know someone in the Hiteon attendance area with a kindergartner, tell them to enroll. More information can be found below.
Another constant in spring is the Hiteon Science Fair. It will be similar to last year in a virtual platform. You should be receiving more specific details from your child's classroom teacher.
We also want to thank the PTC for hosting this year's Science Assembly presented by NASA Wallops Flight Center. We had two assemblies, one for the primary grades and one for the intermediate ones. They both focused on the moon, and the students learned a lot and asked some excellent questions.
Remember Spring Break will be from March 21 through March 25. We wish you all a relaxing time to recharge with your family.
Kind Regards,
Meghan Warren, Principal
Jenny Read-Emslie, Assistant Principal

Staying Safe at School
We continue to work daily on ensuring all our students and staff remain safe in the school building and school grounds. Please watch this slide deck filled with important information on how we can all stay safe during the school day. Remember, at Hiteon, everyone practices the 3W's.
- Wear a Mask
- Watch your Distance (Airplane arms - 3ft)
- Wash your hands frequently

Outdoor Mask Mandate
Dear BSD Families,
You’ve likely heard media coverage today about Governor Kate Brown’s most recent announcement regarding indoor mask mandates. As of March 31, the Governor is moving the decision about whether to require universal indoor masking in schools from the Oregon Department of Education to local districts. We’ve just received this new information and need time to consult with Washington County Public Health Department and our labor partners.
However, effective this Wednesday, February 9, we are dropping our outdoor masking requirement under the following conditions:
- Outdoor recess
- Outdoor extracurricular activities
- Outdoor athletic events
- Outdoor P.E., music, band, choir or other classes if 6 feet of distancing can be maintained
As we have in the past, we strongly encourage all students (ages 5 and up) to be vaccinated. To find a free vaccine clinic near you, please consult this website.
Stay tuned for more updates in the coming days and weeks.

Emergency Student Comfort Kits
As we plan for all emergency scenarios, we’d like your help in creating Emergency Comfort Kits for your child(ren). Comfort Kits would be the first line of resources to be used in any scenario when students are sheltered in place at the school longer than a typical school day. The items in the Comfort Kits will provide them with foods that are familiar to them and items that would help them stay calm.
Comfort Kit items would be sent in a one-gallon, Ziploc bag and clearly labeled with your child’s name and their teacher’s name. Below you will find a list of items that you could include in your child’s Comfort Kit. Please make sure all items fit in one, 1 gallon Ziploc bag.
Suggested Items for an Emergency Comfort Kit:
- Food items such as - granola bars, fruit roll-ups, raisins or dried fruit, jerky, crackers,
- Please NUT FREE - no nut products
- Water or small juice
- Comfort Letter from the family (samples below to help get started)
- Family Photograph
- A small comfort item
If you have any questions, please reach out to our Main Office Team at (503) 356-2140.

Administrative Student Transfer Information
Administrative Student Transfers allow resident students to transfer from one Beaverton school to another and are approved for one year at a time only. An Administrative Student Transfer to a school outside of your home feeder path does not guarantee continuation to the next feeder level of your transfer school.
All students must qualify for hardship in order to be approved for an Administrative Student Transfer, regardless of grade level, sibling status on open enrollment, siblings of students in specialized programs or parent employment with the district.
