Note from the Principal
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that we are already half way through September. Your student has done an incredible job adjusting to a new year and for some a new school. Our staff has been so complimentary of our student's kindness and compassion and ability to adapt to changes as they come up. A couple of things I would like to help our families remember. If your child is absent, our teachers are happy to provide work for them. Feel free to send your child's teacher a message requesting work. Our staff may not be able to provide you with work the day of your student's absence as we need 24 hours in order to collect work and make it available.
Additionally, as I mentioned in last week's communication, it is important during drop off and pick up times that we adhere to our building expectations. We have worked with the Town of Steilacoom to establish the safest and most efficient way to have our students picked up. All students that do not ride the bus are asked to wait in the front entrance of the building and wait until their ride comes into the front zone of the building. Cars should line up on 3rd street and wait until space is available in the pick up lane. This line looks daunting, but goes very quickly. I have noticed families parking on 2nd street and asking their students to come from the bus loop. We are asking that this practice stop as it poses a safety issue.
Thank you for your help!

Note from the Counselor
We finished up this week discussing how important it is to treat everyone well. When we are nice to others, others are more likely to be nice to us. We also discussed that some kids in our classrooms, at recess, and on the bus, will have challenging behaviors which might be due to something going on in their lives or a condition they are diagnosed with (such as ADHD). Understanding a person’s challenges can help us be more empathetic. That doesn’t mean, though, that we don’t address the behavior. We discussed ways kids can get help when others are not being kind (tell an adult, use a Saltar’s Solution, and/or fill out a Solution Seeker form asking for help from a counselor or administrator).
In the next four weeks, we will be exploring the differences between Rude, Mean, and Bullying behaviors and what kids can do about each of them.

Note from the PTA
The PTA is so excited for our annual Move-A-Thon on Friday, September 27th!!! We are still looking for district-approved volunteers who are available for the event. Volunteer sign up.
We reached our first fundraising milestone and all students will receive smarties at school today to celebrate! The halls are starting to fill with keychains and students are excited to compete for class prizes. There is one more week to donate to our campaign!
The PTA fundraiser is one-and-done. The funds raised are invested directly back into our students – through field trips, school-wide educational campaigns, curriculum support, family event nights, and student enrichment opportunities throughout the 2024-2025 school year.
We hope to be able to hold our annual dunk tank celebration. Continue sharing the fundraising campaign and consider joining the PTA to have direct access to volunteer opportunities.
Thank you!
