Johnson Journal
Some thoughts for the starting school year
It is with great excitement that I welcome you back to another school year at Johnson Elementary! As we embark on this new chapter together, I am filled with anticipation for the incredible things we will accomplish. Our theme this year is Raise the bar, and SHINE like an All-Star.
Progress isn't always about monumental achievements! It's often found in the subtle improvements we make daily. By consistently striving to be a little better than yesterday, we elevate our standards and create a ripple effect of excellence. Each incremental gain brings us closer to surpassing our limits and reaching new heights. Remember, consistency is key...small, daily improvements compounded over time can lead to extraordinary results.
This year promises to be a year of growth, innovation, and collaboration. Our dedicated staff is committed to creating a dynamic and supportive learning environment where every student can reach their full potential.
We have carefully crafted our curriculum and programs to foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, preparing our students for success in college and beyond.
I encourage you to stay informed about school events, activities, and important announcements through our newsletters, website, and social media channels. Your partnership is essential to our shared success, and I look forward to working closely with you throughout the year.

Meet the Teacher Information
Join us for Meet the Teacher and stay to socialize with our awesome community! We will open our doors at 5:00. Please enter through the gym on the south end of the building. You will be able to pick up school supplies, if you ordered them.
Please park in legal spaces and be prepared to walk. Do not park on the red curbs! Be courteous and follow traffic patterns. There are many children running around and we want to ensure everyone can safely enter and exit the building.
We are absolutely thrilled to embark on this new school year! Our dedicated teachers have put in tremendous effort throughout the summer to ensure everything is ready and prepared, but what truly completes our school community is the presence of our wonderful students filling our halls with excitement and laughter.
To the families and students who are joining us for the first time this year, we want you to know that you have made the right choice. Our teachers and staff are wholeheartedly committed to delivering excellence every single day. Your child's educational journey will be nurtured and guided with care, and we are genuinely excited to be a part of it.
Together, as a supportive and thriving school community, we will make this school year unforgettable and filled with amazing opportunities for growth and achievement. Welcome to our campus where students and staff Raise the Bar and SHINE like an All-Star!

- Students can enter the building at 7:15 at the front or back entrance and the north entrance by the bike rack (only bike riders and walkers).
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
Below are our Arrival and Dismissal procedures and maps. Please take time to review them.
Please be patient the first few days of school. Safety is our #1 priority and dismissal will take much longer. We will get faster!
Morning Arrival
- Elementary campus doors will open at 7:15 am. Students should not be dropped off prior to 7:15 am.
The main doors for the entrance and exit of students will be monitored by staff for student entry and dismissal.
Any students dropped off before the building is open will not be allowed inside the building.
Parents are welcome to walk their child(ren) to their class on the first day of school only. After that, students will walk in the building independently to their morning arrival locations.
- Both the front and the back of the school can be utilized from 7:15-7:45. After 7:45, you will need to enter at the front of the school.
Afternoon Dismissal
Each family will be given two car tags with the specific name format. PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR TAGS FROM LAST YEAR. THEY WILL NOT WORK. You will receive these at Meet The Teacher. You must have this hang tag when you pick your child up. If you do not, you will have to park your car and come inside to have your ID checked. We will only check IDs in the front office.
Car riders
- We will dismiss the students with a last name that starts with A-L in the front and M-Z will dismiss in the back.
- Parents must have the school provided car tag to pick up their student(s).
Walkers
- Walkers will be dismissed from north end of the school facing Roseland Drive.
- Walkers MUST utilize the crosswalks with crossing guards.
- All K-1 students who are walkers will not be allowed to walk alone. They will be released from the North doors to guardians with tags. If you would like your child to walk home with an older sibling and/or neighbor, you will fill out a permission slip at Meet the Teacher. They will meet in the 200 hallway and be released.
- If an adult plans to meet them, they must have a car tag with the proper label to be released.
Car Tags
- Car tags will be provided at Meet the Teacher. Each family will receive two car tags. If you would like an additional car tag or lose one and would like to replace it, they will be available in the front office for purchase.
Transportation Change
- In the event you have a transportation change, please call or email Denise White prior to 2:00pm (469-219-2340 drwhite0@prosper-isd.net) . This will notify the front office and the teacher will be made aware of the change.
- Do not email your teacher due to there not being a guarantee they will get the message in time. All changes must be made through the front office prior to 2:00pm.
Early Pick Up
- As part of safety and security measures, we will no longer release students after 2:35. Please plan ahead if you need to check your student out early for an appointment and pick them up prior to 2:35pm.
- Students will not be called down ahead of time to wait to be pickup in the front office. We will call your student down upon your arrival, after we have checked your photo ID.
- Students are only allowed to be picked up by their parent/guardian or an emergency contact listed in Skyward.
- If you plan to pick your child up early, please make sure you have your driver's license with you.

WHAT IF I NEED TO BRING SOMETHING TO MY CHILD DURING THE SCHOOL DAY?
Protecting our instructional minutes is of utmost importance and we, therefore, will not make phone calls to the classroom. Parents are welcome to leave items in the front lobby. Please make sure all items are labeled with your child's first and last name as well as their teacher's name. We will ensure the items are delivered to the student.
HOW DO I PUT MONEY ON MY CHILD'S BREAKFAST/LUNCH ACCOUNT?
Payments should be submitted through MySchoolBucks. You can access the myschoolbucks.com tab located under the Parents tab on the PISD website.
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR TO SCHOOL?
All students are required to follow the Prosper ISD dress code. Students are encouraged to wear closed toe shoes with rubber soles every day for safety reasons. PE requires closed toe shoes for safety as well. Flip Flops are discouraged as they can be a hazard on the playground and in the gym. Please click here to view the PISD Dress and Grooming Standards.
HOW SHOULD I DROP OFF MEDICATION FOR MY CHILD?
If your child will need medication administered during school hours, please be advised you will need to drop off medication and fill out the medication form prior to the first day of school
Please call our campus nurse, Nurse Grant, at 469-219-2340 to schedule a time to drop off the medication and fill out the medication form.
WHAT DO I DO IF MY CHILD IS ABSENT?
Below you will find a quick overview of the PISD School Attendance policies, but it is highly recommended that parents review the Student Handbooks for your child's campus located on the PISD website (click here) to become familiar with the Attendance policy.
- Parents should notify the school the morning their child will be absent. All absence notifications and notes will be submitted electronically. Parents will notify the campus of a student’s absence through Skyward Family Access as opposed to calling or emailing the campus attendance clerk to notify the school of the student’s absence. Additionally, this electronic documentation satisfies the signed parent note requirement (state required documentation). When an absence request is submitted through Skyward Family Access, the attendance clerk/registrar will be notified by email. Please go to your child's campus page and choose Attendance under the parents tab to submit an absence.
- When a student returns from an absence at a doctor's office, a signed doctor’s note displaying the date on which the student was seen in the office must be sent to the school attendance email (johnson-attendance@prosper-isd.net) within 2 days of the absence. The parent indication that the student was at the doctor will not qualify as a doctor's note. Please go to your child's campus page and choose Attendance under the parents tab to submit a doctor's note.
IMPORTANTSAFETYINFORMATION
I want to take this opportunity to tell you about the safety measures that we have in place to protect our staff and our students. While I wish I could make the absolute promise that nothing would ever happen in Prosper, I cannot. But the promise that I can make to you is that every staff member is committed to making our school as safe as humanly possible. We are aware. We are diligent. We are trained.
One officer on campus.
- Every staff member has been trained about what to do in case of an emergency or active shooter.
Every campus is audited by our police department every year, which is beyond the requirements of the Texas Education Agency who only requires a campus audit every three years.
Every exterior door has been examined by our maintenance staff and police department to ensure that automatic locking systems are operational.
Every classroom door is locked by default.
Every campus has controlled access to enter the building. Security vestibules locked during the day.
Every visitor must check in with the front office and provide a driver’s license to enter.
Every district phone is equipped with a one-touch button that is directly connected to the police department for 911 response.
