Cornwall News
April 12, 2024
Hello Cornwall School families,
I hope everybody got to see the eclipse on Monday! I was able to see the 2017 solar eclipse in Colorado, which was pretty awesome, but it was not total.
Seeing the "ring of fire" and the seeing and feeling the changes in the environment was an amazing experience!!
I hope you all have a great weekend!
Warmly,
Heather

Greetings!
In art class, pre-solar eclipse, students were thinking about the visual possibilities that the cosmic phenomenon would produce. We discussed the way in which a solar eclipse occurs and the various possibilities of experiencing such an event here in our state!
Now, post-eclipse, we will reflect upon what was experienced and what some of them witnessed when it happened.
Some students have been independently exploring self driven passions, such as upcycled creations, by repurposing materials that would have otherwise been thrown away, such as paper scraps! The imagination and creativity with this concept is truly inspiring!
The 4th and 5th graders have been studying facial proportion and portraiture along with applying the art elements of value and space to their work.
We look forward to the Spring weather and the possibility of observing the nature around the school to inspire our heARTs!
Warmly,
Sarah Flinn
Thank you to Mrs. Cunningham!
Mrs. Cunningham used the green screen and took some really cool pictures of each class as a way to celebrate the solar eclipse. Check them out!
Circus Smirkus
Cornwall School is fortunate to be able to participate in a Circus Smirkus residency at school next week thank you to grants from the Addison Central Education Endowment Fund (ACEEF) and the Gilligan Fund! Smirkus Residencies bring veteran circus educators into schools to provide expert instruction in the circus arts. Students receive instruction in circus skills such as juggling, balance, plate spinning, acrobatics and more. Their approach is aligned with the principles of social-emotional learning, where students develop powers of concentration, focus, and persistence.
Circus is an activity that requires the same dedication, discipline and hard work of any sport, yet stresses collaboration rather than competition. Kids set and achieve goals together, learning cooperation and camaraderie.
Classes Next Year
We are planning for our classes next year to all be stand-alone classes. Teachers for each grade level will be as follows:
Kindergarten - Val Calzini (Mrs. C)
First Grade - Wendy Taylor (Ms. Taylor)
Second Grade - Sarah Trudo (Mrs. Trudo)
Third Grade - Mindy Harvey (Ms. Harvey)
Fourth Grade - Kerry Burns-Collins (Ms. Burns-Collins)
Fifth Grade - Andrew Hirsch (Mr. Hirsch)
If enrollment changes over the summer, it is possible that classes will be shifted a little bit to accommodate those changes.
4/5 Students and Their PYP Exhibitions
PYP Exhibition - Climate Change, Animal Rights , etc.
If you have been to the front door or in the building recently, you may have noticed signs and posters explaining some action projects that 4th and 5th graders are working on as part of their Exhibition project.
Climate Change
There is a new afterschool program, volleyball club, which will be raising money to donate to a company that is trying to stop climate change, Giving Green (Givinggreen.earth).
