The final leaves are falling..
Welcome November!
The days are much shorter and the crisp air is beginning to stick around all day. Washburn is embracing the seasonal change. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather with hats, mittens, and warm coats.

- PBIS Popcorn Party!
- Washburn Family Dance
- The beginning of Family Conferences
- Superintendent Dr. Dorris' first visit of the year
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring your child's success here at Washburn - between promoting our fundraisers to picking up the phone and calling when something doesn't seem right- you are a key player in your child's learning and our school community. How We Keep Students Safe
Safety is our first priority. This is why we have high expectations for student behaviors. It is why we train to evacuate and we train for intruders. Every staff member has multiple ways to access administration and are capable of making emergency calls as needed.
All the doors are locked all the time, external and internal
There are hard wired phones in each room
Cameras that are observed
Secure front entrance
Badged staff
Practice safety measures
We do not have unannounced visitors
Staff have multiple communication devices to contact others for immediate assistance
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conference season is officially here. Our goal at Washburn is to meet with 100% of families to establish a strong learning community between home and school. You are, after all, the experts on your child(ren) and working together is the simplest and most effective way to help your child succeed this school year. The district's goal for fall conferences is to:
- Establish a relationship between teacher(s)/parent(s).
- Learn more about your child(ren) from you as their parent(s)/guardian(s).
- Discuss your child's individual achievement.
- Share how you will communicate collaboratively throughout the year.
Please sign up for a conference using the link below if you have not already done so. If you are unable to access the link simply send your child's teacher a Remind message or handwritten note as to when works for you. Dates for Fall conferences are the following Early Release Wednesdays:
- Wednesday October 23rd, 1:30 - 3:00 pm
- Wednesday October 30th, 1:30 - 3:00 pm
- Wednesday November 6th, 2:00 - 8:00 pm

What's Happening at Washburn?
2nd Grade Writing
Kindergarteners Learn About Pumpkins!
Kindergarteners learned about the life-cycles of a pumpkin in Science last week. There's a catchy song to go with it as well.
6th Grade Math
Pre-K Highlight
WOW work!
Learning how to hold a writing utensil properly, illustrating pictures, writing words, it's all what authors and illustrators do - and Pre-K learners do too!
Celebrating Together
As young readers and writers it's important to celebrate the hard work that Pre-K learners put into their books. We make sure to do just that here at Washburn.
Guidance Class Learning!
This is Mrs. Luce's last week teaching Guidance Classes until after Winter Vacation as she will be switching to small group skill work. Take a peek at what students have learned so far with her below!

What Students are Learning in Guidance
Hello Washburn Families! As you know, the holiday season is fast approaching.
We know that for some families this can be stressful and challenging. We are able to help a few of our families this year and we just wanted to let you know our system for providing this support. All families that have signed up to be a part of our food pantry program will have their names go into a random drawing. If you are selected, Mrs. Luce will be calling to let you know during the first week of November. If you do not receive a phone call, please reach out to the Salvation Army for Christmas help. Their deadline is November 11th. You can reach them at saangeltree.org
Thank you for your continued partnership!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Maggie Luce
News from our Nurse
With the weather getting colder cold and flu season is creeping up on us...
Hand Hygiene:
Hand hygiene is important in preventing illness in both kids and adults. Wash hands frequently such as before and after meals, after using the bathroom, when sneezing or coughing into hands and when hands are visibly dirty. Keeping fingernails and toenails short reduces the amount of germs on hands.
Steps to wash hands:
Turn on the water faucet.
Completely wet hands with water.
Apply soap into the palm of one hand.
Scrub all surfaces of the hands, including between the fingers, vigorously for at least 20 seconds.
Rinse hands under running water.
Dry hands with paper towel and discard.
