Osceola Middle School
November 2023 Newsletter
All kids matter, are important, and can grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
Happy November!
Thankful: As we head into the holiday season, I want to take a minute to share my appreciation and thankfulness for the amazing people who surround your children each day. The life of an educator is not light work, but it is the right work. I feel incredibly fortunate to have such a sensational team of staff members to work alongside. They are EACH amazing!
And, thank YOU. Thank you for sharing your children with us and for your support along the curvy middle school path. It is not always easy to parent a middle schooler, but your partnership with us goes a long way.
Weather:
What a quick weather turn around! Please remember that we still go outside for recess for 15+ minutes following lunch and students need to have winter jackets, hats, and mittens to stay warm! I understand it is not always cool in middle school to have these items, but we want kids to be safe and protected from our Wisconsin weather!
A few important dates to call out:
Friday, November 10th: Students will be watching a Veteran's Day video that captures the lives of three military personnel: an Army Captin war veteran, a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Air Force, and an active Second Lieutenant in the Air Force. This video was put together by a staff member to show different generational perspectives of the military. Students will also have activities in classes to learn about and reflect on Veteran's Day.
Tuesday, November 14th: OMS students will have a modified schedule so they can attend a viewing of the OHS Fall play: The Play That Goes Wrong!
Thursday, November 16th: 6th Grade Cookie Dough Distribution (1pm). Students who had sales of 8 boxes or more should be picked up this day. Please come to the office to check in, then meet your 6th grader in the library to pick up the cookie dough. Please look for a message from the 6th grade team with any additional details.
Friday, November 17th: We are going back to an old tradition! We will be hosting an after school party from 3:30-5:00. There is a $3 fee to come; if students have earned a privilage card, they get in free! We will have fun games, activities, crafts, competitions, swimming, a concession stand ($1-$3 items), and more!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Just a friendly reminder that we do not have school Wednesday, November 22 through Monday, November 27th. Monday is an inservice day. We will start Hex 3 on Tuesday, November 28th!
Students of Hex 1
Our most DEPENDABLE students of Hex 1:
Our Chieftian Pride focus for hex 1 was DEPENDABILITY. Each week, staff wrote notes to students who stood out to them as dependable. Those notes were displayed in the library until the end of the hex. At the end of hex 1, each staff member nominated a student as the most dependable. Grade level teams then decided on one student per grade who encompassed what it means and looks like to be a DEPENDABLE Chieftain. Our winners are:
6th Grade | Lillian Torres
Lillian was nominated by Mr. Marincel and selected by the 6th grade team as our Hex 1 Most Dependable Student!

Another friendly reminder about our after school safety flow:
All vehicles drop off and pick up at the main entrance. Only buses drop off and pick up at the pool doors. Use the "overflow" loop in the shared parking lot if there is a line.
AFTER SCHOOL SAFETY FLOW: Only buses should use the bus exit. Everyone else will be directed to use the four-way stop closest to OHS if they are not picking up a student at the OMS front doors. This flow is all for safety purposes.
