November 1 and 2, 2024
The Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de (los) Muertos) is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2, though other days, such as October 31 or November 6, may be included depending on the locality. The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and remember friends and family members who have died.

Week 13: 11/4/24-11/8/24
Dear GQES Families,
As you know, there is no school tomorrow, 11/5/24 as it is Election Day. Also, a BIG SHOUT OUT to the 96% of our GQES families who completed the online parent portal for the annual notification process. If you have questions, please call Ms. Tiffany Saville in our office at 540-662-3575. Let's get to 100%; #WeGotThis!
We truly respect how hard our parents and guardians work to help children with good behaviors. Adults play a crucial role in reinforcing positive behavior and guiding children toward making better choices, especially parents. Acknowledging good behavior at home can strengthen a child’s self-esteem and create a positive association with desirable actions. Parents can praise specific behaviors, like sharing, being respectful, or completing homework on time. Being specific with praise, such as "I loved how you helped your sibling with their reading," helps children understand exactly what they did well. Small rewards like extra playtime, a special outing, or a sticker chart can motivate children to continue positive behaviors. Building these acknowledgments into daily routines can foster a lasting sense of responsibility and self-discipline.
When addressing behavior that needs improvement, it’s helpful to stay calm and focus on the behavior rather than labeling the child. Clear, consistent explanations about why the behavior is unacceptable—without resorting to blame—can make a big difference. For instance, instead of saying, "You’re being bad," try, "Hitting isn’t okay because it hurts others." Encouraging children to reflect on what happened and suggesting alternative actions, like using words to express frustration, can help them make better choices next time. Parents can model patience and problem-solving, which helps children learn how to manage their actions thoughtfully. Please be mindful to limit screen time to help children develop good socialization skills.
Remember to help us make sure we have safety at all times at our school. This includes NOT coming on campus before 2:20 pm. In the event of an emergency, the necessary first responders must arrive with no barriers in an emergency. In addition, please make sure to NOT be on school campus (playground, sidewalks around the playground), during school hours: 7:20-2:30. If you need to come on campus, follow the protocol: Park. Arrive. Have your ID ready. Enter the school when buzzed in. We have cameras to insure safety. Also, please be kind and respectful for those who need handicapped parking and/or have placards for this need. Thank you for your cooperation!!
If you have any questions or concerns---- please reach out to us at 540-662-3575. We like to solve problems. Venting in the parent pick up line is not usually an effective strategy. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child thrive!
Sincerely,
