Moving Out in Faith Requires Everything of Us
Not so long ago I challenged this congregation to adopt a new tag line to move us forward for such a time as this. “Moving out in Faith” rang loud and clear throughout the room. While a bit scary, ok a lot scary, knowing that a faith community shares the same vision takes out the fear. Remember, we can be scared (a bit) to do something, and there are times that may seem bigger than the movement itself.
But Remember?
And yet- Perfect love drives out Fear. Fear is not of God. Fear is that nagging voice challenging our personhood, where we belong, who and whose we are.
Moving out in Faith gives us an action- an opportunity to journey together into a lived in reality. There are no boundaries. There are no limitation with God. God invites dreaming, God delights in granting the desires of our hearts.
Wesley, you are in a time of great movement. Your collective hearts are primed to move out in faith, knowing that there is a net to catch you. God sees Wesley, God hears Wesley. God wants to grant the desires of Wesley’s heart to embrace one another, the community at large, to welcome other groups into your fold. Wesley, you are providing needed Shepherding to other non-profits, such a Theare 605. Your collective vision is taking shape.
As we come off of Lent and a time of reflection, and for some of us, great heartache, I believe God has faithfully delivered you to a rebirth. You can see each other. You can hear each other. You can love each other.
Why?
Because you know that God sees Wesley. God hears Wesley. God loves Wesley United Methodist Church.
God is ready to lead you as you continue to radically Move out in Faith-
It is my honor lo lead and watch you step into what this means now and in the future.
Shalom,
Pastor CC

Connection through Creation Care
GroundWorks Connect remains honored to partner with Wesley United Methodist to reach out to our local communities with our Creation Care. This is where agriculture, education and community development come together to support each other. Wesley is an integral part of what GroundWorks Connect is doing in the Sioux Falls area, and we cannot thank you enough for your support.
Wesley church members, like those highlighted here and GroundWorks Connect staff servicing students at Terry Redlin, is creation care at its most fundamental level, teaching them how to plant and encouraging their creativity and growth. Teaching students about plants and what is needed to make them sprout and grow is a gift that demonstrates that all persons are people of sacred worth. That seed needs them to water it, place it in a place with sunlight and to care for it. What a gift we give, placing purpose in these children’s lives.
It also is wonderful to see the creativity each student has been given. Not one pot was decorated the same at the Terry Redlin event. Creativity sparks joy and there was a lot of joy to be seen! Just as every snow flake is created uniquely, so it is with us!
Lastly, GroundWorks Connect is so thankful to the volunteers who love all children, reminding them that they have an important place in this and any community. When we teach children to care for one another, we teach communities to become self-sufficient. What better gift from God than to have that powerful knowledge of producing and growing our own food and giving back to the community. This can be replicated in any context and in any community. This means that we also have an opportunity to partner with the Whittier Neighborhood Association in numerous ways, this includes the inception of a community garden, which we hope grows produce, community, and connection all at once.
We thank Wesley for the opportunity to grow with you and experience true community. Let’s keep growing!

Use Caution with Dietary Supplements
Social media and television has significantly influenced people’s interest in taking various vitamins, with ads promoting the new “it” vitamins and minerals and making strong health claims that they attribute to their alleged supplement regimen.
This constant promotion creates trendy awareness but can also lead to misinformation and even potential harmful consequences. What is often lacking in many of these promotions is scientific evidence that the supplement actually does what it is touted as doing.
The purpose of dietary supplements is to help users reach their dietary requirements of essential nutrients. You can often meet those requirements through nutrient rich foods.
But, your doctor may suggest adding supplements if you are lacking in a particular nutrient such as calcium or iron.

United Women in Faith
We had a good turnout on April 12 for our Soul Care workshop at Sunnycrest. We had a chance to rest, contemplate, discuss, and share ideas. It truly was a time of renewal. We had about 50 women attend the event. It was a time to greet acquaintances and to meet new women. The food was incredible. If you weren’t there, you missed a special day.
Coming up is another event that I am going to mention now so you can think about attending. Mission u will be held at DWU in Mitchell July 11-13. The theme is “Practicing Hope.” I will be leading the study at DWU and again at the Northern site in Jamestown July 17-19. I plan to share some of the amazing things going on at Wesley. I would love to have others from Wesley attend so you can also share the seasons that Wesley has gone through in the last couple of years. We have been practicing hope. I see us as a Phoenix rising from the ashes and building a new, better church than the one we have now. I am excited to lead a class on this relevant topic. If you would like to attend I have registration forms you can fill out and send in. The deadline is June 15. The cost is $130 which includes registration, lodging, and meals. A scholarship of half that cost is available to anyone who is attending for the first time. Contact me if you even think you might want to attend.

Important note from Pastor
Wesley United Methodist Church
1700 East 6th Street • Sioux Falls, SD 57103 605-338-4562
Dear Beloved Wesley Family,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
It is with a mixture of sadness and expectation that I write to share an important update in my life and ministry. After much prayer and discernment, I have been offered & have accepted the chance to co- pastor a congregation with Duane. We will be relocating to Rapid City, SD to begin a new chapter as we follow God’s leading into a new season together as partners in life and ministry. We will be serving together at Rapid City First Church, and I will look to open a GroundWorks Connect office there as well. Welcome to GroundWorks Connect 2.0!
This has not been an easy decision. Serving as your pastor has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. The love, faith, and resilience of this congregation have inspired me more than words can express. We have worshiped, prayed, laughed, and grown together in ways I will carry with me always. They say you never forget your first love, that will certainly be true of Wesley United Methodist Church.
As many of you know, Duane and I have long prayed for the right time and place to share a life of ministry and purpose. We sense God’s gentle but firm call to move forward—together—into what the future holds. While I will dearly miss walking with you in this current role, I believe that God is at work here and will continue to guide this church with grace, strength, and vision. Your work, God’s work is not done. You are Moving out in Faith, just as Duane and I are at this time.
This appointment will be effective July 1, 2025. In the meantime, I look forward to the opportunity to thank you in person, celebrate what we’ve shared, and pray together for the journey ahead—for your future and for this beloved church. Pray for both the Cabinet and our DS, Brandon Vetter, who will work quickly and prayerfully to work with your SPRC to find the best Missional fit to love and guide you!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your love, your trust, and your faithfulness. You have been my family, and that bond will remain no matter the distance.
With deep affection and hope,
Pastor Cindy H Coates, CC
