I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! We had some beautiful weather! I would like to thank all of our families who recently participated in our fall parent teacher conferences. If you have not spoken with your children’s teacher(s), please touch base with them ASAP. Helping children to become the best version of themselves involves student effort and constant communication between home and school. When one of the three are missing, student success is generally impacted. Thanks for your partnership.

To help you to prepare for the year ahead, I encourage families to access the SCPS 2022-23 School Calendar. Please print or keep this link handy, as it will help you to prepare for holidays or periodic days off.

Lifetouch will be at Moncure on Tuesday, October 11th for fall pictures. Should your student be absent on picture day, we will have Fall Picture Makeups / Retakes on December 1st. We look forward to seeing your kiddos wear their smiles!

Tuesday, October 11th marks the official start of the second quarter. Report Cards for the first quarter will be available in ParentVue on Friday, October 14th. If you would prefer a paper copy of your student’s report card, please contact our teachers or office.

It is time for our first House Celebration of the year. For this Celebration, grade levels will meet on Friday, October 14th during specials. By meeting in smaller groups, we look forward to introducing our new students to our House System. While we are working with our PTO to purchase House Shirts for ALL students in the near future, we hope you will help your student support their House color this Friday.

Our Fall Spirit Wear website is set to close on October 18th. The site is offering both Moncure spirit wear as well as clothing items associated with your child’s house color. We are excited to share that we have worked closely with a local company who has made the process seamless for us as a school!

Below, you will find the website and password. On the site you can find all six of our houses as well as a tab for school spirit wear. There is a range of child and adult sizes under each house tab. You are able to purchase the items directly on the website. We will close the website on October 18th to process all orders. Once the order is complete, it will be delivered to the school and be sent directly home with your child. Are you looking for gently used Fall/Winter clothing for your growing children or adults? Perhaps you have gently used Fall/Winter clothing, baby items, bikes, toys, or electronics at your house that you are looking to sell. Good news! Moncure’s PTO Clothing (Consignment) Sale is back! If you are looking to sell and volunteer, you can earn up to 75% of your sales. Likewise, all shoppers will be able to find nice clothes for bargain prices. Mark your calendars for October 28th and 29th to shop and/or sell. After a few years away from this Stafford County tradition, Moncure’s community is excited for its return. Stafford Schools will host the Inaugural Multicultural Fair on Saturday, October 22, from 10-2 p.m. at Colonial Forge High School. This event is designed to empower multicultural awareness for students, families, staff, and the greater community. Students and staff will share elements of their culture through storytelling, student leaders, children's activities, food, performances, and fashion that highlights what make their cultures unique.

As a Title 1 school, Federal funds are allocated to Moncure to support our students. These funds can be used to hire staff, purchase supplies, pay for professional development, as well as provide funds to support our families and community. One way funding is determined for Stafford County and Moncure Elementary School is through the National School Lunch Program. With Moncure currently offering free meals for all students, it is easy for our families not to apply for this support. However, if your family has received financial meal support in the past, or if you believe you would need this support to provide school meals to your children, we ask that you use the link below to complete a National School Lunch Program Application. Applications for the National School Lunch Program must be completed annually. Should you have any questions, please contact our school or Stafford County’s Nutrition Department.

Plans change and communication makes everything easier. Should you need to report an absence or adjust your BEAR’S dismissal plan, please contact our school. One way to communicate is by completing our “A Note to School” form and sending it through email to our office and your student’s teacher or by simply sending the form or a note to school. It is not uncommon for our office and elementary schools across our county to receive multiple emails each day with dismissal changes from parents. The notifications require our office to contact teachers to prevent students from being dismissed incorrectly. Student office dismissals after 2:30PM only add to this confusion. Please understand that our “No Student Office Dismissal” restriction after 2:30PM is based on student safety. Thanks for your understanding!

“Pawsitive” and “Caught Ya” Citations are great ways to recognize students and staff for being awesome! Staff members are responsible for submitting “Pawsitive” Citations for students and students and parents are welcome to submit “Caught Ya” Citations for staff. Check your email for these citations! They are a highlight of our day to send and often a highlight for students and families to receive. They also provide students with an opportunity to earn House points.
