College & Career
Attention Senior Students & Parents!
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
You need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form to be eligible for federal student aid such as federal grants, work-study funds, and loans. Completing and submitting the FAFSA form is free and easier than ever, and it gives you access to the largest source of aid to help you pay for college or career school. In addition, many students and colleges use your FAFSA information (and require you to complete it as part of their applications) to determine your eligibility for state and school aid. Some private aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether your qualify for their aid as well.
FAFSA Application Opening Date: December 1st
________________________________________________________________________________________________
With FAFSA season quickly approaching, here are a few ways to prepare for the opening date.
STEP 1 - Create an FSA ID
Students and parents login to Federal Student Aid to complete the FAFSA. Students and parents can set up their FSA ID before December 1st to avoid delays once the FAFSA application window has opened.
STEP 2 - Login to Federal Student Aid
Like any website, it can be overwhelming at first, but even 5 minutes clicking around can really help to familiarize yourself with what resources are available on the site.
STEP 3 - Complete the FAFSA
Once the FAFSA application window has opened on December 1st, double check that you have fully completed the application. Ensuring that all required fields are filled out can help give you piece of mind that you are taking every step to maximize possible financial aid opportunities from both the federal government and your colleges.
Circle "December 1st" on your calendars and plan to complete and submit the FAFSA application as soon on or shortly after that date as possible, as some colleges have priority deadlines to award aid even if the FAFSA application does not qualify for any need-based aid.
