December 2024
A Message from Mrs. Klaas
Farley Elementary has been identified as a commendable school in the state of Iowa based on the Iowa Performance profile. This performance profile is the measure of many components including student growth and proficiency in literacy/math/science, attendance, and many others. Farley Elementary is in the top half of elementary schools in the state of Iowa. We are proud of the growth and progress at Farley Elementary. Thank you for your continued support, collaboration and commitment to your student's education!
The holidays and winter break are quickly approaching as we only have two weeks of school. Please join us tonight for the FES PTO movie night starting at 6:15 (doors open at 6:00) in the Farley Elementary Gym. This is a free event and all students must be accompanied by an adult. Throughout the next couple of weeks there are traditions that take place including our winter rotations with Bobcat families, an all-school sing along and our fun dress up days the week leading us into break. This is a busy time of year at school as we lead into break, and when we return we will have our winter benchmarking assessing in literacy and math. This is our opportunity to look at the growth students have made on grade level skills. We are looking forward to seeing the growth and progress of each student.
On behalf of the staff of Farley Elementary, we want to with all of your families a Happy Holidays. Enjoy the break with family and friends, and we will see you in 2025!
A Message From Mrs. Noonan
School Nurse
We are quickly approaching cold and flu season and wanted to offer some guidance on when to keep students home from school and for how long. Students frequently complain of different symptoms and it can be difficult to determine whether you should keep them home from school or send them. Below are some guidelines to help you determine what the best choice might be for your child…
- Temperature: Per CDC guidelines, 100.4 degrees and above is considered a fever. Students should remain home until their temperature has been normal for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication (Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil).
- Vomiting: Students should remain home until there has been no vomiting (without the use of medication) for 24 hours. Please make sure they can eat and drink without vomiting before returning to school.
- Diarrhea: Please keep students' home until 24 hours after the last loose stool without the use of medication.
- Coughing: This is most likely the hardest symptoms to determine as we all know a cough from bronchitis or a cold can last for weeks and we don’t want students out that long! If they feel okay and the cough is only occasional, then they can return to school. If they continue to have coughing episodes and have difficulty keeping them under control, please keep them home.
- Pain: When a student complains of a sore knee or mild headache, it's just fine to give some Tylenol/Ibuprofen and send to school. Students who complain of pain which is more than mild or minor should stay at home to be monitored.
- Strep Throat: If diagnosed with strep throat, student may return to school 24 hours after antibiotic are started if no fever is present.
We hope you find these guidelines helpful. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact me.
