Principal's Weekly Update #3
September 20, 2024
This week in our classrooms we continued to focus on routines and social emotional skills. As we learn our school routines and procedures through practice and modeling, our students are finding their rhythm within the day.
Next week Wales will host it's yearly open house. On Thursday, 9/26 from 6-7:30 students and their guardians/parents are invited in to explore their student's classroom and exploratory classes. Parents and Wales Primary students will have the opportunity to visit different sites in the building, connect informally with teachers, and link up with our PTO and other community organizations that will be on site. In order to manage traffic and ensure everyone has a positive experience, we ask that only parents and Wales Primary students attend.
The Wales Primary Book Fair is next Thursday, September 26, 2024! Students will shop during the day, and the fair will also be open 30 minutes before the start of Open House at 5:30pm. Open house will start at 6:00pm, classrooms will not be open till that time. Volunteers are still needed—please visit Sign-Up Genius to sign up for a shift, PTO Volunteers: Scholastic Book Fair (signupgenius.com). Don't forget to check out Scholastic online to use eWallet for your students, and any funds from last year can be used at this year’s fair. Scholastic Book Fair eWallet: A Safe, Cashless Way to Shop - Wales Primary, East Aurora NY 14052. Any questions can be directed to Shelly Albers 716-445-9290.
It is also Garden Week. Any child who would like to bring a flower, vegetable or fruit grown in their garden (or that just grows in a garden ) can bring it into school. Our PTO volunteers will greet your child and help them get it ready for display. These items will be picked up at Open House on Thursday or will be put into our composting piles.
The beginning of the school year is a period of transition and can be both exciting and challenging for our students, particularly for those in UPK or Kindergarten. The process of settling into new routines, making friends, and adjusting to the school environment is integral to their development.
Children are encouraged to form bonds with all their peers and to see everyone as a potential friend. Teachers facilitate this by organizing group activities, modeling inclusive behavior, and addressing any issues of exclusion or favoritism promptly and sensitively.
Reminder: On Friday, September 27th we will have our first early release day.
- UPK will dismiss at 11:30
- K-3 parent pick-up will begin at 11:45
- bus dismissal will be at noon
PTO will host the October meeting at Wales Primary on Thursday, October 3rd at 6pm. We hope to see all of you there!
