KHS Update
01/17/2025

Principal's Message
We've made it through half a year of classes! Midterms will take place from January 21st -January 24th. Details about that schedule are below.
Remember that attendance is expected for all academic classes, but students will not be required to attend exam blocks where they have either Study Hall or Skill Center. (Certain circumstances where there has been administrative approval are also places where attendance is not required.) Students not in an exam block should leave the building.
***Please note that students are expected to stay until the end of the exam block, and we are asking families to refrain from calling in to excuse students before the end of each exam period. Dismissals disrupt the testing environment and we ask that it not happen except in extreme circumstances.
All arrangements for rescheduling mid-terms needs to have been completed by now.
Did you know that KHS students have access to not one, but TWO PHENOMENAL Career and Technical Education (CTE) Centers? It's an amazing opportunity offered to our students. Sanford Regional Technical Center (SRTC) and Biddeford Regional Center of Technology (BRCOT) offer students world class opportunities for hands on learning that we just can't offer here at KHS. I want to be clear, this is not the old traditional Vocational educational programs of years past. These are highly competitive programs that help students get real world skills. Some think that a student taking advantage of these fantastic opportunities makes them ineligible for college or university. On the contrary, these programs often help students demonstrate that they are well rounded and innovative in how they earn credits in high school. I am a HUGE supporter of these programs because I know what they offer. to students. If you are even thinking about CTE as a possibility, I encourage students to go on a tour which can be arranged by your school counseling department.
Finally, a quick staffing update. Those watching the Board Minutes with a keen eye saw that we hired a new counselor! Ms. Judy Milligan will be starting with us after the February Break. We'll also very shortly have some good news about several other key positions at KHS being filled. Stay tuned!
Peace,
Scott Tombleson (He/Him/His - What is this?)

(Our students will be first on the program) These young musicians really put their heart and soul into these festivals, and they get to work with some world-class directors, so it is sure to be a good show!

NEWS FROM THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT
What you should know about making SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR SEMESTER 2
The start of semester 2 is just around the corner. If you are thinking about making a schedule change it is very important to schedule an appointment to meet with your school counselor PRIOR TO THE END OF THE SEMESER to have changes made before the semester starts. During semester two, a student may add or drop a semester 2 course(s) during the first 10 days of the semester. A student who drops a class AFTER the 10 day period for semester 2 (for semester two courses) will receive a grade of W on the transcript.
Book your appointment now! You can either email Mr. Wing (dwing@rsu21.net) or Ms. Bisson (cbisson@rsu21.net) for an appointment or pop down and ask Mrs. McCluskey or Mrs. Wiewel if your counselor is available.

Attention Sophomores and juniors - FREE Outward Bound Experience Available
Have you ever considered participating in an Outward Bound program but didn’t because of the expense? You may be happy to know that each year, KHS administers The Phil Hussey Memorial Scholarship at Outward Bound which awards one sophomore or junior from KHS with an all-expenses paid 14- or 22-day summer wilderness experience at Hurricane Island Outward Bound School in Maine. Outward Bound experiences are designed to help people of all walks of life discover their strength of character, their innate ability to lead and the meaning and fulfillment that comes with serving others. Please sign-up in the counseling office with Mrs. Wiewel to attend the information session on Thursday, January 30 during advisory. During the meeting the application process will be explained and last year's scholarship recipient, senior, Jon Hines will be on hand to share thoughts about his experience last summer and answer any questions you may have before applying.
