Dear Families,
If you hang out around schools for even a few minutes you will likely hear something about community. We often use phrases like building community, sense of community and educational community. One of the main functions of schools is to build a sense of community and teach our students how to participate in and strengthen our sense of community. Fortunately, we are not alone in this. Our fantastic parents and community members assist in this important concept.
This past Saturday, April 27, the LoveFallon event occurred. It was a day designated to show our love for Fallon and participants volunteered to participate in community service projects. Churchill County School District is grateful we were able to be one of the sponsors and look forward to continuing this in the future. Community volunteers spruced up the Churchill County High School campus, EC Best, and the ball fields behind EC Best.
I want to thank everyone who put this amazing event together and the wonderful people who gave their time to beautify our community. There is lasting impact when we do things like this. This is how we build community. I look forward to the future as we continue on this path of developing community - together.

Spring is definitely in the air when it comes to sports, activities, and community engagements. This week was full of exciting opportunities and/or celebrations for our schools, including Baylor Sandberg (CCHS) signing with Sacramento State for Baseball, Pinwheels for Prevention Carnival at the William Pennington Life Center, CCHS Prom and our Parent Information Night at Northside Early Learning Center. It was truly a week chocked full of exciting events and celebrations. With every event I attend, I recognize the unique support and passion we have here in Fallon for our students. Thank you, teachers, staff, and partners for such a great community of support!
Northside Early Learning Center hosted a parent night on Tuesday evening, from 5:30 until 7:30pm. Families had the opportunity to come for dinner, and actively engage with other families. ChurchillCSD Transition Coordinator, Sara McGowan, and Early Learning Special Education Teacher, Laura Lee Christensen led parents through a comprehensive understanding of navigating public education. The best part of the evening involved our own parents finding connection and community amongst the common foundations of their children.
As we approach the end of this school year, I am proud to say I am a part of this community. Each day. I am inspired by the experiences and connections of our people and schools. Many more events to come for May with graduations, celebrations, and events! Let’s enjoy this phenomenal end to the school year.

FREE SKIN CARE CLINIC on May 7, 2024 in Reno at Greater Nevada Field (Aces Ballpark)
Churchill County School District is committed to protecting the health and safety of students and staff. Students and staff will spend time in the sun before, during school hours, and after school in recreation and sports programs. Nevada weather and environmental conditions can oftentimes be at intensities that may result in negative health consequences, including sunburns. Too much sun exposure can be dangerous. Overexposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation seriously threatens one's health. Children are especially susceptible to harmful UV radiation and childhood exposure and sunburns in childhood are a primary indicator for developing skin cancer later in life. About 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime, despite the preventable nature of the disease (Safe exposure to the sun). This is why I encourage you & your families to attend this FREE SKIN CARE CLINIC on May 7, 2024, from 4-7 pm in Reno at Greater Nevada Field (Aces BallPark). The address is: 250 Evans Ave, Reno, NV 89501.

REQUIRED VACCINES BEFORE ENTERING 12TH GRADE & 7TH GRADE
Meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) REQUIRED BEFORE 12th Grade!
In 2020 Nevada Legislature passed a law that requires students who will be an incoming senior, to have the meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) BEFORE they can start school in the fall. This means that every single current 11th grader has to have this vaccine before they can start 12th grade. This does not apply to any other grade.
Parents can get this vaccine (MCV4) at their doctor's office, pharmacy, or if you don't have insurance or if you have Medicaid, you can get the vaccine from The Central Nevada Health District - call 775-867-8181 for an appointment.
Once your child receives the vaccine, please notify CCHS school nurse Adonna Crowley at crowleya@churchillcsd.com or call her at 775-423-2181 ext. 4124 with the date the vaccine was given. For more information please contact Adonna, or Chief Health Nurse Chassity Mills at 775-423-3463 x 2003.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR 6th GRADE FAMILIES
Dear Parents/Guardians of 6th graders,
All 6th graders must receive the MCV4 (meningococcal) immunization and the Tdap immunization before the start of 7th grade on 12 August 2024. Children will not be allowed to begin 7th grade until there is proof of the immunization being completed.
Parents are encouraged to review their child's shot record and make arrangements with their health care provider for vaccination prior to the busy 'Back to School' season.
Because of the volume of students requiring immunization appointments, you may find it difficult to get an appointment for immunizations over the summer. For those who are uninsured, underinsured, on Medicaid or American Indian/Alaskan Native, you can make an appointment with the Central Nevada Health District community health nurse at (775) 867-8181. You can also get these vaccines from a local pharmacy – just make sure they take your insurance and that they administer the correct vaccines. Listen for announcements about vaccine clinics and ‘back to school’ vaccine clinics.
If you have any questions please contact:

CCHS
The CCHS baseball team gathered in the gym on Monday, April 22nd as Senior Baylor Sandberg signed his letter of internet to play baseball at Sacramento State. Sandberg has played four years in the Greenwave baseball program and was the 3A Northern Player of the Year in 2023.
CCMS
CCMS Track season is in full swing. Last week the track team traveled to Lovelock to participate in the yearly met hosted by Pershing County. All students showcased their track and field events, celebrated with each other, and received some of their ribbons from their first track meet.
Numa
Students in Kristina McFadden and Jerrilynn Nall's fourth-grade classes constructed ramps and tested them out to experience and explore potential and kinetic energy. Students measured the distance each ball rolled and evaluated how the structure and materials affected the ball's movement. Science is fascinating and the students were truly fascinated to see the results.
E.C. Best
Volunteers from the American Red Cross came to ECB to teach second-grade students what to do in the event of an earthquake or fire. They brought booklets on disaster relief and pillowcases for students to color to create their own emergency kits. They did an amazing job and we are grateful for their service to our community and for them to take the time to come in and teach our young students.
Lahontan
LES teachers have attended professional learning with AG in the Classroom and on April 18th LES hosted an AG Festival for K-1 students. Each class visited nine different stations to learn about how Fallon benefits from agriculture. Stations consisted of plants, worms, a variety of animals, branding information, and butcher explanations. Churchill County Museum also shared the importance of water to the Lahontan Valley.
Northside Early Learning Center
Northside Early Learning Center hosted a parent night on Tuesday, April 23rd. Families had the opportunity to come for dinner, and actively engage with other families.
