Maverick Community News: Sept 9th - 13th
A letter from Principal Baldwin
As we close out the 4th week of school, I want to thank you, the parents and community, for supporting the initiatives of Alvin ISD and Manvel High School. We have seen a noticeable change in the climate and culture at MHS. My number one goal is, and always will be, to provide a safe learning environment for our students. Thank you for entrusting your children with us each day.
As many of you know, there was a school shooting on Wednesday, September 4th at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. MHS had a moment of silence on Friday to honor the 4 lives lost and to show support to a fellow high school navigating through an unimaginable tragedy.
As you spend time with your students this weekend, please remind them of the importance of "see something, say something". Although they may feel the campus has become "strict", I truly believe if we do the little things right (dress code, cell phone policy, attendance, etc.), we will decrease major infractions and campus disruptions.
There are a few things I need your assistance with to ensure we have a successful week 5:
- Dress Code: We are still seeing crop tops, tights and shoes without backs daily. Dress Code Infractions will result in after school detentions or in school suspension. Students received warnings for 2 weeks, expectations were discussed on transition day and during our all family grade level assembly, and announcements have been made. Please assist us with maintaining an academic and professional environment.
- Attendance and Lates: Students need to be present daily and on time to all of their classes. Students are tardy if not in their 1st period by 7:20 AM. Lates and absences will affect student's abilities to earn credits and participation in campus events (ex. dances, field trips, exam exemptions)
- Parking Permits: All student drivers must have a parking permit. Permits are $25. The paperwork is located in the Newsletter. The forms can also be picked up in the front office. To ensure the safety and security of the campus, all vehicles must have a permit. Students also need to obey the traffic laws and be cautions when driving through the parking lot.
- Earbuds and Headphones: In keeping with the Alvin ISD Cell Phone policy, all earbuds and headphones need to be put away by 7:12 AM. We have a large number of students wearing earbuds and headphones in between passing periods. To facilitate smooth transitions and maintain clear hallways, students are expected to converse and move during transition periods. The use of earbuds and headphones is prohibited both in the classroom and hallways to ensure an environment conducive to learning and communication.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to provide a safe and academically rich learning environment for our students. I am proud to serve this community and truly believe it takes all of us to ensure the success of each student at MHS.
Kind Regards,
Jamie Baldwin, Principal
