Save the Date - Upcoming Family Education Nights
Mark your calendars... Pomerado is hosting a Family Literacy Night on Thursday, Feb. 27 and a Family Math Night on Thursday, March 27.
Family Literacy Night
Join us for a Family Literacy Night where we will review the IMSE program and explore how kids learn to read through the Science of Reading approach. This research-backed method focuses on how the brain processes language and emphasizes foundational skills like phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. During the session, you'll gain valuable insights into how these key components come together to help your child become a successful reader, and how the IMSE program supports this development. You'll leave with practical strategies to support your child's reading journey at home!
All Wildcat families are welcome! This event will focus on the IMSE Comprehensive program which students experience in grade Kinder through 2nd.
Students are welcome to attend with you. :)
Please RSVP by completing this short survey to reserve your spot before Friday 2/21

Read Across America
We are so excited to celebrate Read Across America Day here at Pomerado on Friday, February 28th! On this special day, we promote literacy and a love of reading with some special activities for our Wildcats. Each class will visit the library where we'll host a Book Exchange, and every student will be able to choose and take home a book to keep. Our K-5th grade Wildcats will also be taking part in a school-wide read aloud in the afternoon, where they will get to visit with a favorite teacher or staff member to hear a fun story. Be sure to ask your student about Read Across America Day after school on Friday - it's sure to be a fun day for all and we hope they'll have lots to share with you!
English Learner Family Engagement Survey
Parents of English Learners:
Today through Friday, February 28th, Poway Unified will be conducting our Family Engagement and Accountability survey to gather input from all families of English Learner students. This survey helps shape the Districtโs goals and guide priorities for the 2025-2026 school year. Your feedback is extremely helpful as we continue to seek ways to better our English Learner program. Please click HERE to complete the survey.
New Instructional Materials for Adoption
Learning Support Services is pleased to announce that our Middle and High School teams have recommended new instructional materials for adoption. Our Middle Schools are recommending Amplify for English Language Arts in grades 6-8, and our High School team is recommending McGraw Hillโs Economics for economics courses. Both teams conducted thorough reviews to ensure alignment with state standards. ELA materials were evaluated using the CA ELA/ELD Framework and CA Common Core Standards, and the Economics materials were assessed based on the CA History-Social Science Content Standards and Framework. Poway Unified School District invites you to review these materials and provide feedback. The links below will take you to the pages where you can log in, review materials, and provide input (through March 10th).
