Crusader Chronicle
August 2024
Dear Crusader Families,
Please take time to review the upcoming events and all of the available volunteer opportunities listed within the Crusader Chronicle. It takes a village for all of the events to occur seamlessly in the Crusader community. Your help and support is truly appreciated!
There have been some date changes and updates to the Master calendar. Please read the following updates below:
- The Sacramental Parent Meeting has been moved from September 19 to September 26. All 2nd grade and 8th grade families who are receiving the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, or Confirmation should plan to attend the parent meeting.
- Bishop Fenwick has scheduled their Graduation on Thursday, May 22- the evening of the SFDS Graduation. Since we have received the parent survey results from our 8th grade families, the SFDS Graduation has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 21. A copy of the new 2024-2025 Academic Calendar can be found under the Parent Resources.
The Crusader community is currently looking for the following help:
1. Afternoon Crusader Care- The Afternoon Crusader Care team is looking for additional help. They are looking for someone who wants to work part-time, plan fun activities for students, help students with their homework, and provide excellent care for the students after school. Pay is $15 per hour. If you are interested in the opportunity, please email me at SBitzer@sfdsleb.org.
2. Substitute Teachers- If you have a Bachelors degree and want to help the Crusader community cover classes when teachers are ill or have offsite meetings, please let me know. I would be happy to share additional information regarding substitute teacher expectations, pay, and how to receive a substitute teaching license. Please email me at SBitzer@sfdsleb.org.
The 2024-2025 school year marks Year 3 of the Virtues in Practice program. Below, you will find the year in review for all of the virtues the students will be learning about in their Religion classes. Every month, there will be new family activities, related to the virtue of the month, that your family can complete together. If a student is being virtuous during the school day, they will receive a Virtue Award. Every other month, the school will acknowledge the students after a School Mass to celebrate earning a virtue award. A list of dates for the Virtue Award masses will be sent in the next Crusader Chronicle.
If there are any questions, about the information listed in the Crusader Chronicle, please contact the school office.
As always, thank you for all you do to support the school!
Gratefully,
Sarah Bitzer
Principal

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Requirements to Volunteer
Whether as room parent, cafeteria, library, playground, coach, chaperone or committee member, our volunteers play a key role in the success of our school. Parent and grandparent volunteers have a first-hand opportunity to see their child’s daily activities and interactions, meet their teachers and friends, and have an active role in their child’s school environment.
St. Francis de Sales School, along with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, operates in full compliance with The Decree on Child Protection which requires Safe Parish training and electronic background checks for all volunteers.
- To register for training, visit AoC Safe Parish (aocsafeenvironment.org) and click Register on the top right. The passcode is protectcincy.
- Complete the online Selection.com background check.
- Complete quarterly bulletins throughout the year. The bulletins will be sent to your email.
If the steps above are not complete, then the individual will be unable to volunteer within the school.
