The Cardinal Connection

Wednesday April, 9th from 3:30-4:30 Mavis and will be hanging out in the library for any family or community members who want to come and meet her. In addition, Mrs. Gaede has put together a wish list of things she needs for Mavis. If you would like to donate Mavis (and Mrs. Gaede) would be grateful.

This year we are trying something new for our spring concert. All grades will perform in the Boogie on the blacktop. Each grade will perform a song and do a dance. Please bring your lawnchairs and enjoy the hour of singing and dancing. Ice cream will be served. Rain reschedule date is May 8th.

We will be joining several other area districts in conducting enrollment earlier for the next school year. This initiative will allow office staff more time to process enrollments efficiently. Additionally, we hope it will alleviate some of the late summer financial burden on families. With enrollment fees, lunch fees, school supplies, and clothing expenses, we understand that August can be a particularly costly time. Our goal is to help families spread these costs out over a longer period. More information coming soon.

Strong women have the power to change the world ---and yet how we help teenage girls grow into strong women can be a challenge. Providing focused opportunities to learn about themselves, their own personal strengths and individual talents can be a first step. This past December, USD 439 was awarded a $3,000 grant from the Harvey County Women’s Community Foundation focused on supporting all of our 5th-12th grade girls.

Self-Care: specifically focused on skincare and hygiene. On April 11th, we have a dermatologist and cosmetologist coming to meet with our girls. Parents are welcome to attend as well.

Self-Reliance: On Saturday, May 3, our girls are invited to participate in an evening of orienteering at Harvey County East Lake where they will learn how to read a compass and map in order to successfully complete an obstacle course. We also are hoping for a starry night to learn how to read the stars, too. Each girl will receive their own compass and a bonfire with hotdogs and s'mores will help complete the evening.

If you, or someone you know, has a child from birth to five years old, we offer a FREE screening each month. Your child can be screened in the areas walking, talking, seeing, hearing, and learning.

Our office is now using a QR code and google form to sign students in and out of school. This not only cuts down on paper, germs of everyone touching the same paper, but also allows for more privacy. Please be sure to bring in your phone when checking in or out your student.

Please keep a positive balance in your child's food account. Emails of low balances are sent out twice a week. Check or cash can be paid in the office or payment online through My School Bucks.

Cardinal Collective is a district wide parent/community group that provides support to the administration, staff, teachers and students of USD 439. This service includes funds raised and donated to offset the cost of student and teacher/staff activities and needs. Cardinal Collective will promote spirit and pride in USD439 by sponsoring, hosting, or participating in the events and activities that promote USD 439 and its students. We meet the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 in the Media Center/Library area and we encourage anyone and all to join us! Many hands make light work.

What we Provide: JH/HS Dances, Daddy Daughter Dance, Conference Meals, Teacher Appreciation Gifts, K-12 Teacher requests, Breakfast with a Buddy, Son and Mother Events, Goodies with Grandparents, Book Fair, Elementary school shirts, Cardinal Carnival, After Prom, Promotions/Graduation events, Cardinal pride night meal and support for field trips.
