August 14, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
Dear Northpoint Families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I am very excited to get started and welcome our new and returning students to Northpoint. I don’t know about you, but our first day of school, Tuesday, September 3, 2024 can’t come fast enough! To say I have been looking forward to this day since summer started would be an understatement (I’ve been counting down since we were 113 days away). Only 20 more days to go!
As we gear up for the year, I want to share a few highlights of our learning model for 2024-2025:
- Homerooms and learning pods will be by grade level. This means core language arts and math will be grade level.
- We will continue to have “What I Need” or WIN time each day. Timing of this will be aligned for students to meet with small groups that make sense for their individual next steps in learning and that may mix some grade levels together based on the learning personalized to them.
- Our long-term plan is for students to loop from first to second grade and from third to fourth grade with their team of teachers. Looping can benefit relationships and learning. This is a transition year, and we will loop as many students/teachers together as makes sense based on staffing and student needs.
- We are designing multiage moments within the school day and year to provide students with opportunities to interact with students both younger and older than themselves. We’ve seen positive social, emotional and behavioral learning and development in moments like these that may include recess time, occasional morning meetings, our Northpoint houses and other interactions.
Find your child’s teacher
You will be able to find your child’s classroom teacher in Campus Parent Portal beginning Monday, August 26. If you are unable to access Campus Parent Portal, we will help you in the Northpoint office. Class rosters will not be physically posted at Meet and Greet.
Attend Meet and Greet – Wednesday, August 28
The Northpoint Meet and Greet will take place on Wednesday, August 28. In an effort to truly make a personal connection with each family, we will have two different times slots for parents and children to attend (You only need to attend one). Sessions will take place 1-2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Children are welcome to bring their school supplies during their visit.
While at Northpoint, you will have an opportunity to visit with your child’s classroom teacher. In addition, our specialists will be available in their classrooms, Nurse Tammy will be in the health office and administrative staff will be in the office to assist with any questions you may have.
Visit the Back-to-School hub at Springlakeparkschools.org/BackToSchool. Here, you will find school supply lists, Educational Benefits application (Please complete an application!), before and after school childcare (Learning Ventures), iPad preparation information, and more. You should have also received the “Back to School” email on August 7 with a checklist to help you get ready. If you’re not finding what you need, reach out.
Bus riders
If your child rides the bus, information about bus stop, pick up and drop off times is expected to be mailed to homes the week of August 19. Please plan for your student to ride the bus on the first day of school to help us work out all our routines and eliminate as much confusion as possible.
Car riders and walkers
Students may be dropped off at school no earlier than 9 a.m. If your child will be dropped off and picked up by a parent, we will be having both a car line and parent walk-up.
- For parent drive up, we dismiss students from the gym to meet their parents in the line. We will provide parents with a sign to post in their windshield with their child’s first and last name and teacher. We count on this information to help the process go as efficiently as possible. Parents may begin to line up in front of the building starting at 3:35 p.m. Staff will be outdoors to help us get into routines to ensure the process goes smoothly and safely.
- If parents wish to walk up to the building to drop off or to pick up their student, please use the crosswalk to come to the main entrance. Students may not be dropped off prior to 9 a.m. Students will be allowed to enter the building at 9:10 a.m., unless they are eating breakfast. At the end of the day, wait outdoors until students are dismissed at 3:55 p.m. For safety purposes students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
