Hawk Talk - Weekly Principal Notes
A weekly newsletter to keep Hawks Nation informed
Be Steadfast and Unmovable... Good things are happening
Welcome to another week of Hawk Talk! I want to encourage our students and parents to not grow weary in their well-doing. We have certainly seen our share of challenges early on in this school year, but the commitment we have to working together and the pride we have in giving our best every day is sure to help us overcome those challenges. Good things are happening at our school. We've hired new teacher, our student enrollment is growing, our current teachers are creating great relationships with our students, and our students are creating a culture that is undeniably contagious with positivity and leadership.
Sometimes when we are faced with adversity it's hard to see the good we experience. I'm here to tell you that there is a lot of good at our school. We have amazing parents, PTSA, Athletic Club (Hawks Nation), Band Booster Club, and a growing Performing Arts Foundation! Thank you all for partnering to make Seaforth great! We're nowhere near done, and I appreciate the support of our teachers and students. Stay tuned Hawk Family. The best is yet to come!
J. Angius and L. Waldman Join the Seaforth Family
We are excited to welcome Jonathan Angius and Leah Waldman as new teachers to Seaforth High School. Mr. Angius joins us as a math teacher and Ms. Waldman joins us as an EC Resource teacher. Mr. Angius is in his third year teaching and has had previous teaching experience with Guildford County Schools. Mr. Angius is passionate about teaching and believes in making a connection with every student possible. We're glad he's part of the Seaforth family! Ms. Waldman is an experienced Exceptional Children's teacher and is transitioning from a charter school to join our family. She is energetic and takes a student-centered approach to instruction. We are blessed and fortunate to have them both officially join our school!
Senior Scholarship Website Coming Soon
Parents, our student services department is working on creating a scholarships website for our seniors. The Class of 2024 will have access to local, national, and college specific scholarships. Our goal is to have the website up and going before College Application Week, which is October 16-20. Parents, be sure you check the CFNC website during college application week. During that week, there are several colleges across the state that waive the application fee. It's a great time for students to apply. If you have any questions about scholarships or applying to college, please reach out to our student services lead counselor, Lindsay Phillips at lphillips@chatham.k12.nc.us.
School Improvement Team Parent Volunteer Found
Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to serve on our school improvement team. We have found a parent who will serve in the role of parent volunteer for the 2023-24 school year. We look forward to the voice of our parent volunteer who will partner with us to do what's best for all Seaforth students. The Seaforth High School school improvement team meets twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, after school. We will share our school improvement plan once it is approved by the CCS Board of Education.
ASVAB Testing Available
Seaforth will be offering the ASVAB test on Thursday, October 12th to 10th, 11th & 12th graders. If interested, please have your child sign up using the following link:
https://forms.gle/aQxFQrU1KS6Tqu276
The ASVAB test will help you:
- Learn about yourself and the world of work
- Explore occupations within your area(s) of interest and skills
- Develop an effective strategy to realize your career and educational goals
One of the scores of the ASVAB is the military services’ entrance score which you can use to explore career options in the military. By no means are you obligated to military service as the ASVAB is designed to allow for exploration of both military and civilian jobs. Therefore, should you wish to explore further options with the military, you will need to contact the military branch of your choice. The school has elected not to release the scores to the military.
If you have questions, please see Ms. Bowman in A105F or email her at tbowman@chatham.k12.nc.us.
