Important Updates
AT/Accelerated/Infinity Gifted Program Identification
As we embark on the season of planning for the 2025-2026 school year, the identification process is underway for accelerated placement for next year’s 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Here is some helpful information:
All 3rd grade students are automatically considered for potential placement in Academically Talented (AT) Math and AT ELA programming. You do not need to request it. However, you can reach out to ask questions about the process anytime using the contact information below.
5th grade students are also automatically considered for potential placement in an additional Accelerated Math Pathway that starts in middle school. This pathway provides for the completion of Algebra before entering high school by allowing students to complete more than one grade level of math in 6th grade and 7th grade.
5th grade students who are currently in our AT programming may be identified for potential placement in the Infinity Gifted Program at the middle school level. These students may take part in additional testing in February. Parents will be informed in advance if additional testing is requested.
Families of students who are identified for placement in our AT Math, AT ELA, Infinity Gifted or Accelerated Math programming will be informed by March 28. Please refer to the Identification Timeline for additional information.

Morning Drop-off Safety Reminders
Dear Davis Elementary Parents,
As winter weather continues, we've noticed an increase in car traffic during morning drop-off. To ensure the safety of all our students and maintain an efficient drop-off process, please review these important safety guidelines:
The Horne Street entrance near the mobile unit is reserved exclusively for staff parking during designated hours. Please use the main drop-off area for student arrival.
Please maintain a single lane of traffic on both Seventh and Horne Streets. Double parking creates dangerous conditions for our students and causes traffic congestion that affects everyone.
Student safety is our top priority! Please use the designated crosswalk at Seventh and Horne Streets, where our crossing guard is stationed to safely escort students and parents across the street. We've observed students attempting to cross through traffic and in front of buses, which creates extremely dangerous situations.
U-turns are strictly prohibited in all drop-off areas, as they pose significant safety risks to pedestrians and other vehicles.
We understand mornings can be rushed, but your cooperation with these safety measures helps protect all our students and ensures a smooth start to everyone's day. Thank you for partnering with us to maintain a safe school environment.
Best regards,
Gina Shaw
Principal

Local Judges visit Davis School
Page it Forward is a project of the Illinois Judges Association. This reading program is aimed at children in grades K-4 to encourage the appreciation, value and enjoyment of reading. Judges dressed in their black robes make classroom appearances, read a book and discuss its intersection with history and the law. The book is then donated to the school library. Students at Davis were excited to hear from 2 Judges this week who spoke with them about their future and encouraged our students to dream big. Many thanks to Kane County Associate Judge - and Davis parent - Lark Cowart, as well as Kane County Circuit Judge Sandra Parga.
💗💙💗Thank you, PTO and Parents, for the wonderful Valentine Celebrations! 💗💙💗
Davis Staff Award Nominee
Dear Davis Elementary Families,
We are thrilled to share some exciting news! Our amazing administrative assistant, Mrs. Mona Carlson, is being nominated for the Kane County Educational Service Personnel Award. This winter, Davis will be embarking on a special project, an all school reading initiative called One School, One Book. Every student will receive a copy of the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We are encouraging everyone in the Davis community to follow the same reading schedule each night and read along with your family’s copy of the book.
What is One Book, One School?
One School, One Book is a shared reading experience for the entire school. Each Davis family and classroom will receive a copy of the book, along with a reading calendar. We hope to get all families reading the same book at the same time. We aim to build a community of readers at our school.
What do I need to know?
On Wednesday, February 19, your child will bring home a copy of the book and the reading schedule. Chapters 1 & 2 will be read that night.
While we encourage your family to read each night together at home, we know that this isn’t always possible. If you are not able to read as a family, the daily readings will be posted on the Davis One School, One Book website read by a different member of our staff. This provides students the opportunity to participate in the reading in the event that reading aloud as a family is difficult.
We plan to celebrate our shared reading experience together at school on March 13 at our Family Reading Night. We are planning a fun-filled, chocolate themed night to celebrate our love of reading and a successful One School, One Book program!
We are looking forward to sharing this experience with our Davis families. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our LRC Director, Mrs. Bradley, melissa.bradley@d303.org.

PTO News
Davis Schools Families! We want to say a HUGE “Thank you!” for supporting this incredible Boosterthon Dance Fit fundraiser.
Here are our final stats:
💲We raised over $13,000 for the direct support of field trips and assemblies. These funds will also help with school events like the block party, and supplies for classroom calm down corners, recess equipment, and more. This will directly impact our students and staff!
🥳Students learned how to live with character during the Castle Quest each day. This led up to an exciting Dance Fit event, which was held during the school day this week. We celebrated our community coming together and created unforgettable memories at this school-wide assembly. Please enjoy the pictures below!
❤️Thank you for your support of our school. We’re grateful for our Davis Families!
P.S. Giving will remain open for one more week. If you’d like to continue to give and share, head to MYBOOSTER.COM today.
