AMS Newsletter 24/25: Volume 3
Principal's Message
Hello, AMS Students and families,
Happy 3rd week of school! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the weekend.
I am excited to share you that our Spirit Swag Store is now open! Whether you're an athlete or simply want to show your school pride, we have a fantastic selection of apparel and gear to choose from. It's a great way to support our athletic programs while looking stylish around school! Be sure to check it out and place your order before the store closes. Click here until the 24th. As a reminder, the PTSA also has a swag store available, check the details below.
Also, we want to extend a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to our ongoing fundraiser. Your efforts are truly appreciated, but we still have some work to do—we're only halfway to our goal! Let’s keep the momentum going and continue to spread the word. Every bit helps, and together, we can reach our target. The SOS fundraiser is such a huge part of our school culture transforming the hallways and bringing our family, pets and community inside. The HAV has also become an honored tradition in our town and something we have come to take great pride in.
This week, as a reminder we have a halfday on Friday, please view the bell schedule so you and your students know what is ahead. And, finally, thank you to the parents/guardians that joined us for Open House. We are still seeking your feedback, please view the section below and complete the survey for us.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to making our school the best it can be!
Best,
Kia duNann
Principal
AMS Fundraiser
AMS Families,
We really do need your help in able to hit our fall fundraiser goal. It would make a HUGE
difference if every family could email and text 10-20 more friends and family members. And
if you could post on any social media you use that would go a long way too.
This is a win-win-win fundraiser. Our school makes money, your kids earn prizes (and even
a field trip), and we get to honor the brave men and women who serve our country!

Athletic Swag!
The AMS Athletic Spirit Wear Store is OPEN! Order your sports gear here by September 24th! Orders will be shipped to AMS on a weekly basis and delivered directly to students. This will be your only chance to get gear during the Girls' Soccer and Cross Country seasons. The store will be open periodically throughout the school year for a chance to purchase gear for other sports if you choose not to order now; more information on those dates will be coming soon! A portion of the sales from our Athletic Spirit Wear Store help to fund athletics at AMS, so thank you in advance for your support. Go Hawks!
District/State Testing
District MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing will begin on September 23. MAP assessments are computer adaptive achievement tests in Mathematics and Reading and are a norm-referenced measure of student growth over time.
If you choose to refuse testing for your student, please fill out the attached form and return it via email to mfrost@asd103.org by Friday, September 20.

Staff Spotlight
Holly Besmer:
Hawk Prep
In Hawk Prep we are learning organizational and time management strategies to help us start middle school on the right track. We are going to be setting academic goals and learning study strategies. New to Hawk Prep this year is improving our typing skills so that students can be more efficient on the computer.
7th Grade Leadership
This is a new class, so we are taking on some new projects and activities to promote good vibes at AMS. We are learning about what it means to be a leader and applying what we know through service learning. If you want to learn more about your 7th grade leaders, check out the upstairs bulletin board by Mrs. Besmer's classroom.
Math 6
We are jumping into our first unit on Area and Surface Area. Students are learning how to navigate DESMOS, develop strategies for finding the area of parallelograms and triangles and apply area formulas. Students have a weekly HW packet, so be on the look out!
Patrick Swapp:
7th grade ELA
We have been working on developing some classroom routines, as well as some reading strategies. These include marking the text, and creating a simple graphic organizer to closely read short texts.
7th grade PE
There has been a huge emphasis on routines, to make sure we can smoothly enter and exit the gym and locker room areas. We have also been doing some games and activities to reinforce and practice some basic skills, such as throwing and catching.
AMS Library
Become a Friend of the AMS Library. Our library needs your help! We have some exciting opportunities for friends to directly impact our students and support their love of reading. Please see the attached flyer for more information and complete an AMS Library Interest Form. If you have any questions, please email Jo Rolfes at irolfes@asd103.org.
AMS Athletics
Welcome to AMS Fall Sports! Cross Country and Girls' Soccer are underway and we can't wait to see you at one of our upcoming competitions! Check out the schedule and if you're available, our Hawks would love your support and any of our home or away games/meets. If you have any questions about sports at AMS, please email resposito@asd103.org. Our online Athletics Gear Store will be opening soon, so stay tuned!
AMS Clubs
Clubs are starting up! If your student is interested in getting involved in one of our clubs, sign up on FinalForms and pop into the next meeting! With the exception of Art Club and Robotics, the remainder of our clubs are currently free of charge. Is your student interested in starting their own club? Have them stop by the front office to chat about what they'd need to get that going.
Free & Reduced Lunch Application Form & Information
Free & Reduced Lunch Applications and Meal Time
