MRMS Families,
With the event in Texas, we are reminded of how connected the world is now and how impactful the actions of an individual can cause such devastation, anxiety, and unrest. Locally, the threats made to our schools are an alarm, jolting us from our reality of life on the Cape and causing our minds to wander. Abruptly, tranquility is replaced with concern, bewilderment, and terror. This is true for you and me. This is true for our children.
Making sense of our world is a big part of what we are tasked with doing as educators. As we instill values and encourage children to become the most that they can be, we recognize that in order to do so, students must feel safe. Typically, when we think about safety it is around security and basic needs. Last week, Dr. Carpenter highlighted many of the actions we take to meet those needs. Equally important, our students need to know that they are essential to our school community. Each child holds value, should be respected and is expected to contribute to our school.
In response to last week, and in recognition of where our children are at, we will be providing additional support to our students. Over the next couple of weeks, our counseling department will be meeting with each homeroom with the intent to encourage students and help them recognize that they each hold a part in the solution.
The topics will include:
“See something, say something”
Staff will review warning signs of someone at-risk of hurting themselves or others and how to get help, including through an anonymous reporting
“Passivity vs. Activity”
Staff will reinforce that students have control over their future, and discuss how they can shape it.
How to access additional support and information.
Help students recognize that support is available and where to access it

Progress Notes Posted
Just a reminder that progress note grades have been posted in Aspen for quarter 4.
Math MCAS
Thank you to all the students who worked diligently to complete the Math MCAS this week. It is always impressive to see the seriousness with which our students approach these tests. While we have completed our regular and make up test sessions, we will be seeking out students next week to complete their testing. Great job students!
Step Up Day - June 14th
Mark your calendars! On June 14th, students across the district will participate in our annual Step Up Day. Students will have the opportunity to visit and meet with teachers from the grades that they will be in next year. Step Up activities will be happening during the morning on the 14th.
Bus Ridership @ Monomoy
Just a reminder to complete your online Aspen transportation forms. Click here to log into your family Aspen account, and select 'Start a new Bus Verification.' Please note that you must complete the form for each student.
MRMS Cares For the Troops!
In honor of Memorial Day, CSL classes are working with the organization Cape Cod Cares for the Troops to collect donations that will be made into care packages for deployed troops! Please consider donating travel sized toiletries, packaged food items like granola bars or candy, and personal items such as T-shirts, socks or boot laces. Keep an eye out for flyers coming home next week with a full list of suggested items. Donations can be left in the marked bins located under the table in front of the Main Office until Friday June 3rd. Thank you!
Food Services Update
Unfortunately, federal funding for free meals for all students will not continue next year. However, you can still apply for free or reduced school meals for 2022-2023. You can find a copy of this application on our website here. The process is simple and can be done online. Families that do not qualify for Free or Reduced Meal Benefits may want to budget money to deposit into their child's account (MySchoolBucks.com).
